Dell Outlet - What's up with that?

Has anyone ever ordered from the Dell outlet? Opinions? Does anyone know how the machines are refurbished, and why? Any comments on the outlet would be useful. I am looking at 9300's and the prices are great at the outlet...I just don't want to get some buggy piece of junk...I'd rather just pay the man and get a new one if that's the case.

thanks!

most of the refurbs are just people who are returning their laptop within the 21 days... they buy it and open up the package and don't want it for whatever reason... dell uses the outlet to resell them.... some are actually "refurbed" models...

if you call customer service and give them the ID number for the laptop, they can trace it and tell you exactly where the laptop has been...

p.s. you can always buy the warranty that Dell offers..

dell outlet computers are just as good as regular dell home built to order computers in my opinion

I wish that I had used the outlet. I paid way too much for my notebook. I used the outlet years ago for a desktop. I worked perfectly and I was even able to overclock it.

I bought a 6000d from the outlet two weeks ago and when i showed up the radeon video card was busted. I sent it in for repair over the Memorial day weekend and got it back yesterday. After repair it has been working flawlessly. Also the cool thing about the outlet is the fast ship time, since the system is already built.

I dunno... I'm not comfortable buying a used and/or repaired laptop. Its been worked on once before so I'm not confident of it working without a problem again. Some people dont mind buying used but when it comes to a PC I want mine new and unused. But thats just me.

As someone above mentioned if you call Dell they can tell you what was done to that exact unit you are considering buying.

Most refurbished systems start out as new systems ordered by companies. A lot of companies will buy more systems than they need to accomodate for malfunctioning systems. Anyway, when the companies realize that they don't need those extra systems, they just send them back. Dell has to brand them as refurbished, because technically, they are not new.

Refurbished systems are just as good as used ones. They often have no problems.

Dells are reliable. I would not buy a Sony or Compaq used (or new...).

This is my fourth used Dell and works flawlessly.

Yeah, Dell builds the best mass-production systems out there. I've had a Dimension 4100 for 5 years, and I abuse it heavily. I've never, ever had a hardware problem with my computer, even though I believe that I should. I always thought that repeatedly pulling the plug on the system would do something to one of the parts inside, but I guess not with a Dell.

both of my laptops were from the outlet. both looked 100% brand new when I got them, not even a scratch. first one lasted me 5 years, about a year on this one so far.

i see no reason to buy new if you can get the same from the outlet, really. same warrantly, most likely the same computer, and much cheaper, especially if you catch one of their specials.
