Help BIOS flash Problem

It looks like the screen quality was degrading the entire 6 hours I was installing software and drivers. The video quality was less than desired, but I figured it was the video drivers. When that didn't help I flashed my BIOS w/ the update. Now screen flickers so bad I can't even see what's going on. Adam, I tried the Ctrl-Fn swap and that didn't help either. I also, tried to flash again a couple of times. No help....I'm hurt....Can someone please help....I just got my lappy today...

The flicker is more like excess vertical and horizontal lines, cluttering the LCD. It even flickers during the POST. Like I said before it it seemed to be degrading prior to the flash update that Adam posted. Yes, I did follow his outlined procedure EXACTLY. Is there a way to unflash the BIOS? Or go back to the original? Does anyone think this could help? I would really hate to have to RMA it....Could the BIOS flash have caused an worse LCD problem?

Now I get nothing but a fade in/fade out show during the entire boot process. But the comp boots to windows?? At least I hear the sounds of booting to windows. I was so excited when I got my lappy...No I'm so sad. Waiting to hear from PCTorque, then its probably an RMA and more money out of my pocket....

I believe you should be able to flash your bios with the older one that came with the computer. Did you receive a bios diskette with the computer. If not try downloading the older bios from the Sager site with another computer if your 8890 is not working.

Yeah, I'd definately get the oldest/original BIOS and re-flash it... can you at least see the black/boot screen portion prior to the windows loading screen? (the one that shows your CPU, memory, etc).

No!! I can see nothing but fade, dim to bright to dim to bright to dim to bright, all various shades. I think it has to be the LCD. Waiting to hear form PCTorque b4 taking next step though.

Sounds like you may need to RMA it to Sager... hopefully, they'll be OK with it (BIOS updates are typically "use at own risk" sort of thing). However, I'm willing to bet with PC Torque's help (especially) that Sager will help you out.

I know this doesn't help any, but this is a good lesson for people: UPDATE only if absoloutely necessary, because it's a risky thing (who knows, your problems could just be that 1 out of XX thousand that go awry?).

Hope you get things worked out and you're back up on the laptop soon,

Great News....Sager has done it again...It seems that there is a minor/major problem with some of the new UXGA screens from the manufacturer. On late Monday, when I finally got to talk with tech supoprt, they were going to ship me a brand new comp Tuesday morning. Tuesday morning they called and stated that they had a fix for my comp and that I would not need to waste my money shipping my lappy back to them. After about a hour on the phone with them they had me up and running again. Now the LCD is perfect (Well, with the exception of 1 dead pixel, top left corner of screen, so really no big deal )!!!! No money out of pocket!!! A few extra days of down time....Wohooooo....I'm so stoked...Kudos once again, to Sager.
