Intel 2915ABG Wireless problems

Anyone else having major issues with this mini PCI wireless card in their laptop?

I own a Acer 8103. and the wifi keeps disconnecting and dropping to crazy slow speeds (1mbps) when im right next to the AP! When this happens my signal strength bar is always max or one below max. So its not a problem with transmitting and recieving.

The problem is so dreadful that I can't even browse the net let alone stream audio or video!

Ive tried reseting my AP many many times, changing the channel its on, updating the APs firmware. With no luck.

Anyone had the same problems and manage to sort it out?

Im using WPA and using windows to control my wifi connections.

My AP is a Netgear WG602 v2

I had the same problem when I allowed Windows to manage my wireless card. Try downloading and installing Intel's PROSet drivers and wireless client software. Download from Intel HERE Good luck.

Thanks for the link, I have installed it and it does seem to be working better than it was. But its still dropping down to 1mbps and 2mbps on occasions.

I shall test it out some more tomorrow.

Thanks

I had the same problem before, the problem went away after I fixed the AP's communication channel to "11" instead of "AUTO".

Hey TrancerSteve ....... I know all About this problem. There is nothing wrong with your WAP, it's the 2915 software. I HAD the SAME PROBLEM with my 2915 wireless card. I am afraid PuddleJumper gave you a link to the old software. The download he provided was for ver 9.0.1.0 and the new one is 9.0.1.4 - This is a new BETA Fixed Driver and New PROwiress Software that will fix your problem.......Once this problem is fixed your Wireless will NEVER drop down to 1 or 2 or 5 mbs ever again !!!!!

Before Downloading anything please read these Posts on Broadbandreports.com. They are a few weeks old. My Lappy is only a month old and had been running great ever since getting the 2915 fixed. The link that Intel gave us is no longer there so you will have to call Intel Support to get the new link so you can download the Archive you need... You dont just need a new driver, you need a new version of the Intel PROwireless as well.... The Driver you need is Version 9.0.1.21 and it comes in an archive file which extracts into C:\Intel\wireless 9.0.1.4 - generic TIC 93067. This also contains a new version of the Intel PROwireless software which will also have to be installed. There is a readme file with installation instructions but you might want to ask the Intel Tech support people to "walk you through" the installation. The extracted "archive" is about 80 meg.

After updating the 2915 abg card works great in my Laptop....No more loss in connection speed, now at 54 mbs all the time, and no more lousy throughput....

So here is the liknk to broadband.com - read ALL the posts and then you will know what to ask intel tech support for - good luck....... I think you can reach them at 916) 377-7000

Hi thehappyman

This is great there is a fix!

I see on that link you gave there is a link to a beta driver filenamed wireless_9.0.1.4_-_generic_TIC_93067.exe is that the one? If so that link is still active, and ive tried it and have seen an improvement, but still dropping out

If ive downloaded the wrong one it would be great if you could transfer it to me somehow, through msn or a chat program you have.. im not fussy if i need to get a prog to suite you just really eager to get wireless working right

Thanks alot

TrancerSteve - What is the link you used to get that driver ? Check your wireless card driver version (in the device manager) if it's Version 9.0.1.21 then you have the driver that fixed all of my problems......... This new download had fixed everybody else that was reporting this drop down problem - you read the posts on that link I sent you....... Very surprised to hear it didnt fix yours. You may have some other problem.... I am using wireless G with WPA-PSK and Mac Filtering. I use a Linksys WRT54G Router. Good Luck. Let me know if thats the version of your driver....

I havent had one single "drop down" since I made the change....

You are welcome TrancerSteve.... I guess so far in my travels across different forums I've seen half a dozen to a dozen people who have had this problem with the 2915 card dropping down in speed and so far this fix has helped everybody (except maybe you....)

So there may be some other problem that is also affecting your setup..... I really hope you find it.... Maybe try removing all encryption and see what happens ???? Good Luck, I know just how frustrating it can be !!!! I assume you have tried changing the wireless channel and all the simple stuff.

heya does seem like its fixed... I can't quite believe it watched a whole movie streaming from my network and no dropouts at all!

Its insane how we have to get a link away from intels site, and intel's site reports no problem of this nature. The 2915 card isnt that new anymore and I would of thought that any issues with it would be nicely ironed out by now.

But ah well im happy its working

Fixed all my drop outs to THANK YOU!

Fixed

Glad you Guys are Happy !!!!!! I feel sorry for all the other people out there with 2915 cards that have this problem and dont know about this fix..... I still see a LITTLE speed fluctuation (like down to 48 mbs once in a while) but no more big drops... also check your throughput with the speed tests here on Broadbandreports.com - mine went way up higher, consistently after I installed the fix

Do you have to have intel's cliet run, or can you just use the driver and microsoft's client? I ask, 'cause at present I'm using Microsoft but still have the drop out, but also don't have the 9 or so programs Intel would have running as well.

i was having this problem so bad that i sometimes couldn't even load any sites... it would just keep dropping out compeletely.. d/led the 9.0.1.21 drivers.. same thing.... i cranked up all the settings to max power and now it works alot better, but when streaming larger movies.. there are still disconnects where the connection will freeze for periods of time unless i click the stream again...

Interesting...

I haven't seen the problem with mine, but heck new drivers are always good. Thx.
