Has anyone noticed spotty touchpad button function on their iXPS2/9300?

On first use, I was happy with everything (there seems to be a slight light leakage at the bottom of the screen, but that might just be the backlight - I haven't had the time to do extensive testing), but the left touchpad key is EXTREMELY tempermental. Sometimes it'll work fine, and others, I have to tap the thing like a woodpecker to get it to finally respond.

I thought "hey, maybe the contact plate is small, and my hitting it on the sides isn't triggering the plate underneath." This was quickly disspelled by having the problem occur when I had my finger directly in the middle of the button.

This is somewhat of a moot point, as I'd be using a mouse primarily - but 1) sometimes you just want to use it at the spur of the moment and not dick around with mounting the mouse, and 2) it's a 2000+ dollar state-of-the-art laptop, the goddamned touchpad buttons should work.

I'm just wondering if others are experiencing similar issues.

Nope, my touchpad is fine, i can press lightly on the corners of mine, and it still clicks fine.

Oh yeah, I fiddled around with the click settings as well thinking maybe the defaults weren't my style.

I'm gonna do a wipe and reinstall over this weekend to completely clear out the bloatware. I'm also wondering if the "non-responsiveness" might be caused by the system processing the 40+ pieces of programming Dell thinks I JUST CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT.

I'll also be putting the first of two 1GB Kingston SODIMMs into the thing, which SHOULD nip any question of "non-responsiveness" in the ass.

If after all of that (including a flash to A02 as my system came with A01 even after A02 had been released on the FTP - just not posted on the website), it's still screwed - time to get myself a new laptop.

I'm not going to use this thing for 2-3 years, then when I'm selling it have to say, "Oh, by the way, the touchpad's a little touchy, but that's okay because you'll be usin' a mouse most of the time, right?!?!" Uh huh...

Are you going to install the ALPS touchpad drivers after the reinstall?

More than likely - are there MS-equivalents that might work better?
