after getting my sentia back from the depot with a new lcd (but still with 1 dead pixel
) and not having come to a conclusion with AW tech and cust support, i finally decided to go ahead and replace the 1gig aftermarket ram chip i had in before i shipped my sentia to the depot.
i opened the big cover on the bottom, popped my ram in, and as i put the cover back on, i noticed the very middle screw did NOT line up. this was strange because the cover was snug and all the other screws DID line up. so i removed the cover to see what was up and i notice that the small metal screw-holder (looks like a transistor) had broken off! the thing, which was soldered on through the motherboard, now lay sitting on its side!
so i went ahead and called up tech support again and was told i am NOT covered by warranty because i did not open the case under their supervision! you can probably imagine that i was not pleased (by both AW support, policies, and feeble product).
whats upsetting is that i did NOTHING out of the ordinary. had i had tech support on the phone, the same thing would have happened. plus, whether or not i had tech support on the phone or not, the incident would STILL be based solely on my word. its not like they can see through my phone had i had them on the line.
whats also left for me to wonder is that perhaps the piece was damaged while it was at the depot under AW's hands. could they have weakened the piece? could they have actually broken it but put it in place without actually repairing it?? i guess ill never know.
so as a word of warning, dont get suckered like me. study up on the AW warranty policy (which strangely protects the corporation more so than it does the consumer).
