IEEE 1394 Firewire port not working (8887)

G'day folks,

I have a 60gb flip2disk firewire drive that I can happily use on my desktop pc. As soon as it's plugged in to the firewire port (even while booting), the light on the flip2disk drive illuminates to tell me it's on and receiving power.

However, on my 8887 the light does not illuminate and the flip2disk simply isn't recognised.

This is a FRESH 'by the book' w2k installation on the 8887 (can't stand XP!) and the 1394 device is showing with no problems in the device manager.

Unfortunately I have no other firewire devices to test but I'm guessing that the firewire port on the 8887 is just 'dead'. (Yet w2k installation picks it up ok.)

Has anyone else experienced this problem - or can someone recommend a solution? It's not really an option for me to send the lappy back as I'm thousands of miles from the US. :/

Is it a hardware or os/driver issue do you think?

Many thanks in anticipation.
Carl.

the firewire port on the sagers are not powered. can you plug an external power source for your drive? if not...then ur pretty much out of luck. it has been a design choice not to power up the firewire port because it would draw battery power...but i'm probably thinking most users plug in most of the time...it wouldn't of made a difference. perhaps in a future release they will be.

The USB2 ports are powered but the difference between a normal firewire port and the mini ones are that the mini ones are never powered.

I bought an External Drive enclosure but it comes with a pass through PS/2 port connector to give it power when it is using the mini (4 pin) Firewire port.
