After months of searching for a notebook, it's come down to these two. My favorite is the new Asus by far, the only problem is it's inferior X600 64mb GPU. What is the performance difference between the X600 and the X700 in the 8104, and how much difference does 64mb vs 128mb make. Can the X600 be overclocked to be close to the X700? Is there anyway the memory can be upgraded from 64 to 128? I'd like to see a graph comparing the X300, X600, and X700. Why does Asus always put 64mb in all their notebooks? Lots of questions, anyone have answers?

Well, the x700 is about 2x as fast... Here is a quick spec page, but really, the x700 is a lot faster.

You'll not be able to upgrade most likely. It might be possibly upgradeable, if Asus makes a specific upgrade part for it, but I bet it is the whole GPU+memory, not able to just add more memory.

the x600 uses hypermemory... soo it has 64mb dedicated and it adds like 64mb from you system memory.. it should be on par to a x600 with 128mb.. but in the meanwhile. the x700 most likely will outperform the x600 by 33%-50% in benchmarks..
if you aren't a hardcore gaming.. the x600 will be fine.. else... x700... i'll wait for new AMD turion's, some of them sport the x700, like the ferarri 4000.. but if you are a light gamer.. z70v is perfect...

Can it be overclocked up to the X700's specs? I've seen pictures of ATI's GPUs (http://www.techbits.ca/kip/images/mobilityx600.jpg). They have the processor surrounded by four mem chips. Does that whole unit come out, or is it soldered in? If it can come out, can you buy an upgrade?

I'm not a hardcore gamer right now because I've never had a fast computer before. (Right now I'm on a 5 year old compaq presario.
Compaqs are crap!) I might get into gaming in the future. I don't want to be limited in what I can do with this notebook, but I also have a "more power complex". I want to have a more powerful notebook than the next guy.
