LUKE:

I'm getting ready to invest $6000 - $7000 in a workstation laptop (Clevo) and am waiting for, in this order, 100 GB 7200 RPM hard drives and the AMD dual core processor.

Never having had a computer with AMD, what are legitimate issues, or complaints, about AMD or their processors? I know the independant IT company we use doesn't have too many positive things to say about them.

Is the AMD/ATI combination more popular with gamers than Intel/Nvidia because of cost? I don't need to make a mistake here and need the fastest and most powerful workstation notebook that I can configure (within the next 4 - 6 weeks).

Also, I noticed on the Eurocom site that the AMD dual core D900K will be limited to 2 GB RAM. Admittedly, I'm not that knowledgable here, but am I better off with a P4 670 and 4 GB RAM than the dual core with 2 GB RAM? 2GB is currently sufficient. Working, simultaneaously, with REVIT and PHOTOSHOP files in the 50 - 100MB range, I could/would think that 4 GB would be a huge advantage.

Even though it would seem that AMD will be the first out with a dual core lappy, wouldn't intel's version be close behind?

the 9880 max ram is 2.8gb. this has been addressed atleast a million times now.

No, please no! They can't do this to me!!! Why limit it to 2 GB of RAM when there is absolutly no need? It is not like an item of hardware just doesn't support more RAM. They would have to have thought "we don't want it to have more than 2GB" and then actively worked to stop more than 2GB RAM. I would have hoped for the same number of memory slots as the 9880 but with the different chipset a possible capacity of 4GB. People need this for high power applications and future upgrades.

Give us 4GB!!!! Give us 4GB!!!! Give us 4GB!!!! Give us 4GB!!!! Give us 4GB!!!! Give us 4GB!!!! Give us 4GB!!!! Give us 4GB!!!! Give us 4GB!!!! Give us 4GB!!!!

Also, I don't see why Dell should get the 100GB 7200rpm drives. No wonder they aren't being produced in large enough volume if they get all of them. I'm sure Dell could survice with a few less. If this notebook isn't out till August then the drives should be out by then anyway I suppose.

Rook, to answer a few of your questions"

Gamers like AMD chip better as they tend to run games faster than their Intel counterparts. AMD, back in their K6-2 chips (years ago) had some quality issues, which is what gives them their bad rap. Then about 2 years ago their chip speeds lagged behind Intel. Pretty much over the last couple years though, AMD has been spanking Intel on speed and cost with little to no quality issues. On potentually HUGE advantage AMD has over Intell with Dualcores right now is they are using the current mobo's for their dualcores. So if you have purchased a 939 mobo, you will be able to use a dualcore in it. Intel, while using the same number of pins, will require you to change the mobo if you want to move to dualcores. Right now you can not put 4 GB of Ram in the 9880's and Luke stated that he was not sure if that would be a limitation with the AMD's yet. For what you are doing, you would be better off to wait and see what the AMD's spec out at, 4GB would be alot better than 2 for sure. I do think that the 670 is better at what you want to do than the AMD FX, but not better than the dualcores.
