Intel Pentium 4 670 Prescott 2MB L2 Cache LGA 775 EM64T Processor is here. The 9880 motherboard accepts it... then why not?

Hypersonic has these in their laptops. Weird since they also use the D900T.

Theoretically, can't any second level manufacturer offer that themselves? Like Sager, Hypersonic, etc. Isn't it just as simple as popping a new CPU in? Or do warranties somehow get voided by using an "unsupported" processor?

Perhaps Sager is wary of using the 670 until after they have thoroughly tested it for heat issues (assuming there are any, of course). The D900T series has certainly had its share of heat issues. Or perhaps the 670 requires more power and the current power adapters can't handle it. I suppose one could pop on over to the Intel website and look up the power and thermal specs--one who isn't as lazy as I that is.

i think they use the same watts as the 3.6 ghz.

The Intel 670 processor installs and works just fine in a Clevo D900T based system as along as you have system BIOS 1.00.03 or 1.00.04. In fact, when I switched to it from the 570J, the system actually runs cooler with the fans in the rear running less and at a lower speed when running. I guess there is some truth to the fact the the 6xx series runs slightly cooler than the 5xx series of Pentium 4 processors.

their speedstep technology is desabled in the clevo D900 brand notebooks so they should not be running any cooler than a regular P4.

Even without SpeedStep the 6xx CPUs are supposed to run cooler than the comparable 5xx CPUs.

how would they run cooler? i haven't read anything about that other than the speedstep.

May I ask when did you do the upgrade to the 670? I know it was May 26th when they were officially released here in the U.S. Will it affect your warranty? Would you say it is a worth it upgrade? Thanks.

Actually, it's not regular speedstep, but EIST (Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology).

But, besides that, there's also Thermal Monitor 2, which improves on TM which was in the first P4. However, you're right, this is only in the 660 and 670, so it wouldn't affect other 6xx series CPUs.

Finally, there's also the C1E Halt state, which improves on the C1 Halt state for regular P4s.

So, even without EIST it should run slightly cooler.
