New Powerbooks? - Page 2

If the past holds true then October will probably be when the PowerBooks are updated.

and shuld be 1.8GHz too... since apple numbers are predictable... 1.0... 1.25... 1.33... 1.42... 1.5... 1.8.. 2.0... 2.3.. 2.5...2.7

Appleinsider recently stated that they expect updates as early as early september. Nothing major, just a small bumnp, but every bit helps. I read it on macforums last night.

You revived a 2 month old thread just to say that? You should get bad rep.

I think there is no reason to expect any meaningful update in October other than
another 100 MHz increase in processor spead and, possibly, slightly better graphic cards -
along the same line as the recent mac mini and iBook update.

It would be more interesting if the Powerbooks would be upgraded with the new Freescale
low wattage chips which also include dual core versions. However, in view of the upcomming switch to Intel, I don't think that it is commercially viable for APPLE
to invest to this drastic improvement. It is sad, in fact.

I think, nothing will happen untill Q1 2006 when new Yonah chips will be released.
Looking on the unofficial Intel roadmap, one can expect that the first Intel-Mac Powerbooks will have 1.6-1.7GHz dual core Low Voltage Yonahs inside. The chips take around 10 Watts only, and this is really exciting, because we can finally obtain a truly slim, light, cool and silent Powerbook below 2kg (hopefilly, 1.5kg) of weight. I also hope that the display brightness and resolution will be finally improved - LV processors spare enough energy to allow for that! If this will be realised (and not with the delay of half a year after Yonahs are released), I will be the first one to put an order on Apple website!

@kwick7, the thread can be old, but the subject is actual!

my frined thats at the middle of 06 most likely the end of 06 there is still time for a pb g5. Do you know how many millions they will lose if they dont come up with something fast!

When there are new Powerbooks released there will probably be a very minor processor upgrade with perhaps a video card upgrade. There will be nothing major until the first of the Intel Powerbooks which are not for at least another year if not longer. Some had predicted that Apple would release higher resolution displays for the 17" Powerbook at least but it didn't happen, Apple will probably wait until the next Powerbook revision since otherwise the upgrades won't be anything great.
are u kidding me??? Look sry if i sound mean but an pb with an 9700 128 card is what i call old tech for something casoting 2600+ bucks. If i can get something simlars with way higer specs way cheaper. Apple needs a revision know it doesnt matter how small or how big just as long as it increase some sort of speed.

Another bonus would be if the Powerbooks had these chips they'd have the speed/performance to live up to their name.
