Using Both Firewire Ports @ Same Time...!

My 9860 will not let me use both 4-pin ports at the same time regardless of what two devices are plugged in -- I have tried two external HDs, one external HD and a video camera (video capture) and several other configurations...if I plug one in it recognizes it, then when I plug in the second nothing happens. If I plug both in and restart, it recognizes neither of them and the second I disconnect the cable for one it immediately recognizes the other.

Any ideas? I'm really stumped and need to reoslve this issue ASAP for some work related stuff.

Thanks,
Richard

What happens when you plug the second hard drive into the back of the first one ? You could try installing the latest Chipset drivers.

I don't know what chipset drivers I need, and I can't daisy chain them right now because I don't have an extra FW800 cable handy and that's the only spare port they have. I will have to buy the cable today.

You mean Firewire 400 ?

No, I mean FW800. There are dual FW800 hard drives I use for editing on a bigger workstation, but I am out of town for a few weeks editing on a 9860. The hard drives each have a single FW400 port "just in case". I am using that port to connect to the laptop since it does not have FW800.

I have run into problems before when running my audio interface and a HD off my laptop at the same time, the suggestion I havent tried was to plug the HD into the back of the interface to run it, but unfortunatly I cant risk that much bandwidth so I havent tried it yet. But I get the feeling some things dont play together well on the same bus. Unfortunatly I cant give you better advice than that.

I managed to solve the problem by using manufacturer update tools for the hard drives. I think it had something to do with XP SP2 updates to the FW400 & FW800 protocols. It would make sense because the other machine I use does not have SP2 and there has never been a problem!

Thanks for the help guys
