I dont know what you guys are on about but i just called Dell and tried to get a discount on an i9300 and he wouldnt budge an inch!!!
I got an Indian rep who said that Dell was a multi national company who would sack any employees who engaged in such negotiation techniques!

So much for buying a discounted i9300!!!

Any help guys?????

lol i dont think you can haggle with a corporation unless you're buying hundreds/thousands of pc's.

I've heard of some sellers cutting the savings from -their- profit.. but you obviously didn't speak with a generous one .. can't blame him though.. I wouldn't either :-X

Thats some serious bulllshi. Just by emailing dell, they gave me a $50, $75, and $100 concession coupons. You should call again and get a different guy. Which sector did you call?

Home sales.

Ive been looking forward to this day for a couple of months now- i had finally plucked up the courage to purchase the i9300 and let them have £1000 of my money. Im majorly d***ed off that he wouldnt budge an inch. Makes mt think that all this time was wasted for nothing

Haven't done it myself, but...

How about telling the tep you found a better deal elsewhere, say HP or Gateway. (Might want to actually FIND the deal though.) Also, keep trying. You don't get the same rep each time you call, so maybe someone will cave.

I found that the best way toi get a discoutn was to make them believe you are not interested. Be prepared to hang up and call again. I rang once just to see what the pricing was and the guy started doropping the price in lot's of $100 with "for today only..." type deals.

The DELL sales guys will say anything sometimes. Don't believe a word of it.

Sometimes they will if they can. But if the deal isnt there they cant do it. One day there may be a deal but the next its gone. I've even heard of the offers being limited to a certain amount of customers.

Example:

Sales Supervisor: "Okay, listen up sales reps! Sales are a bit slow this week so today we can offer a $XXX discount only good today though if the customer locks his order in by the end of the business day today."

This sort of thing does happen in the PC industry. These deals are something last minute and only good for a day generally so they dont get advertised due to the short time frame. Problem is though the reps dont have to offer it and you never know when its possible. Its a sales gimmick.

The Dell Rep I spoke to offered me a discount, but it was nothing close to the coupon discount I found of techbargains.com. I asked him about the coupon and he told me that he couldn't come anywhere close to it and to just order online using the coupon. I called back a second time and was offered the same lousy discount. I just went ahead and ordered online. There has to be some kind of way for you to get in on a coupon deal.

There are no coupons on offer in the uk mate as I said earlier so haggling was my only chance to get the price of the i9300 reduced

Same deal as with buying anything else. Do you go into a car dealer, say alright - I want this car - now lets haggle???

Try phoning them up to talk about the i9300, be skeptical, and see what they throw at you.

i'd try again and i'll give u a tip... typically when the offer has been made whoever speaks first loses...

ie... state ur case first then ask... as opposed to asking and then stating ur case afterwards...

You can haggle, when I bought my 9200 I got a great deal. I found it helpful to play ignorant and try and confuse them. The more confused they are about what your asking for the more you can get from them IMO.The various deals and methods for buying a computer with Dell is a perfect way of creating that confusion.

Essentially my method works off the same principal that con artists use with cashiers ( wait I gave you $100 and then you gave me my change but I wanted it in $20.00 so I give you back half and keep one twenty .... no you need to give me back three 20's b/c ... oh nvm give me back the hundred and i'll pay with this $20.00 .. ok bye)

Yep i made a phonecall and got 400€ off and some free software DMX Deluxe and XP Pro.
And now i got another free year of warranty (NBD) because i had to wait a week longer before my laptop returns.
Just give them a call again.

I think it's sometimes easier to get Dell to part with 'freebies' after the purchase. I recently bought a 9300 and a 6000d and got them to credit me back $50-$60 on each one, got an extra A/C adaptor for the 9300 and also recently got them to send me a quicksnap cover for each one for free.
