Firewire connection Question.....

So here's what I'm trying to do....I have a video camera with an S-Video "Out", but I have a laptop that just has Firewire as the "In".....Is there a "simple" way I can get the video off this camera and onto the laptop so I can burn it to a DVD?

2nd Question....I also have an older video camera with only the RCA composite "Out" and the same Firewire "In" on the laptop.....I guess I have the same question for this one....is there a "simple" way to get video off that camera and onto the laptop? I guess I could move the video to a VHS tape and go the "S-Video" route from the question above (assuming I'm able to work something out for the question above!)

Are there any adaptors that interconnect or anything like that or am I looking at needing a different piece of hardware entirely???

Thanks.....I'm just a newbie at this stuff and am hoping the experts who have been doing this kind of stuff for a long time can help me out!!

hmmm, an older camcorder? w/o a USB 2.0 or firewire port on the camera i'm thinking u'll be stuck having to buy an input device. i've used and been quite happy w/ ATI's TV Wonder USB 2.0 product. it has coaxial connector, along w/ RCA and S-video jacks.

it costs ~$99 retail. prolly ~$80 online.

ads tech has the av pyro link, which allows u to convert a host of connectors. with it u could pipe your s-video in and use the firewire out connector to run it to your system.

it's more spendy tho, and i haven't used it myself.

~$180 retail and prolly $150 online.

there are other converters too. google and newegg my friend.

if u had a firewire port on the camera u'd really be set. without it u'll have to work the camera manually for FF, RW, play, pause, etc. w/ the direct firewire connection u'd be able to control the camera's playback functions via your capture software (ulead or nero for example)

Thanks for the input Triadone! I'll give your first suggestion a whirl and see what I get. Firewire on the new video camera makes this process a breeze, but with the older video I have I just didn't really know what to do.

Thanks again.
