$745? Ouch! Not suprised though. Not sure its worth upgrading from a 6800 to 6800U. Might be better to wait for the next generation card. I expect to see something from nVidia better than the 6800U by Christmas.

That is a very steep price just to upgrade the card. I do believe the price is justified considering that along with the card they will be modifing the MB. But myself I wouldn't go for it if I had an x800 or the regular 6800. I'm also curious about how much time it takes to do 1 MB and what all they are upgrading/changing.

Well it is the Ultra, the MB revision, and a the new ACA(which mind is is 125.00). So if you break it down it is about the not that unreasonable.

Here is the time required for the upgrade:
2 Hours for Disassembly and reassembly of the notebook
2-3 Hours for motherboard rework + testing
Then on top of that final testing once the notebook is reassembled

but well.... 10 minutes was close

ouch..10 minutes equal 10 $
but as luke said it takes about 10 min ...eghhh NOT. We have 7 hours that 420 minuutes times10 / 10 etcetc ...well all in all, it get to 700$ at the end with everything included.

I dont think the problem is with the price of what Sager is charging. Its more of a question of price vs performance of going from 6800 to 6800U. I'm thinking thats the bigger issue at hand. At least thats what I would be more concerned about anyway. Everyone has their own thoughts on this I'm sure.

I think the performance is there. Despite the issues I was having, when I ran a successful benchmark on my 9880 I was getting 5200 on 3dmark05. The best I got on my 9860 was 4100. Everything else was configured identically - CPU, HD, RAM etc....

In my opinion, a 25% increase in 3dmark05 (1100+ benchmarks) is nothing to sneeze at.

Man thats a little spendy. I think right now I'll stick with my X800 and see what the X800xt does and whats the price

hmm i just hope that another mobo revision will not be nessesary for anyone with the ultra to jump to yet another version of cards
post #12 of 15
well,i'm seriously considering it. i have to send my 9860 back for an rma anyway(sometimes when i start it up now one of the fans doesnt seem to start..causing it to idle at 65 =/ ) so since i live in canada and i havta pay 200$ ish for shipping anyway i'm thinking why not might, as well go for the whole package

With this upgrade we pay for new parts. Do we get the old parts back? The older video card and power supply? Would be nice to have a backup video and the older power supply could be used for something. Also, does this upgrade include the next ATI X800XT possibility? Or will we be duped into another 700bucks? I prefer the ATI to Nvidia.

i'm seriously considering sending mine in for the upgrade and spires brings up a good question, i'm not sure waht use i'd have for my old x800m (ebay maybe?) but it'd be nice to get the old parts back...?

taliosfalcon.. an advice, sell the whole laptop on ebay and buy the 9880. Or if u can wait a couple of months u can sell it then (but for a cheaper priice) and get the new dual core
