my 700m has arrived - Page 2

MR. HEMI: wow, nice. Were you using any sort of undervolting? That means you were on track for over 5:30 usable time. That's 2 full movies comfortably. Even my P7010 would only last 4:30 watching movies.

What brightness setting were you at?

I'll have to test this on my next trip coming in 2 weeks.

my 700m is pure stock, i have not modified anything.

I did turn off the Wi-Fi and used the second lowest brightness and volume was about 20%. Plus the fact that the battery is only 1 week old (like the computer), i was surprised too i only used about 50% battery for a dvd not bad.

But so far im really liking this thing

I'm running mine at 600mhz .700v and after 15 min of doing similar stuff I have:

40C
40
30

After a few hours it goes up to 50, 50, 40 as the case begins to heat up. That's when the hand rest gets warm.

I ran a real time battery (8-cell) testing tonight. Use FULL brightness to watch DVD (3 hrs 20 mins). Wi-Fi was on for the first 1.5-1.75 hrs before turning off (I forget to turn it off to begin with). At the end of the movie about 5 mins battery time left according to windows reading.

So in total, it gave me about 3:30 with full brightness seeting. I guess It will probably run up more than 4-4.5 hrs if wi-fi off all the time and reduce much more brightness. Also may increase battery time if watch DVD from hard drive instead of from DVD+/-RW drive.

No. Everything stock and this is a refurb built in April 2005 and I got it in May. I'll try Centrino Hardware Control next time and run comparison.

I agree with that. I see no problem going 5 hours with the 8-cell and just maybe 5.5 hours (with a relativly new battery)

The result is in again. Setting 1.6GHz with CHC recommended lower undervolting, sett brightness two dials down (this is my mimimum comfort level when what DVD on 700m), Wi-Fi off from the beginning, and Same Movie 3 hrs 20 mins. on DVD+/-RW Drive. The result was aruond 4.5 hrs.

That was a good 1 hour increase in battery life compare to previous testing on everything stock.

Then after this 2nd round test, I realized that when I play DVD using WINDVD software, the software installed a new power profile defalut at maximum performance (1.6GHz all time) and it overwrite my CHC setting when the software opened. I have to manually switch back to maximum battery mode.

So here we go. I will be at round three with two more adjustments in addition to the described setting above.
1. Set power profile at maximum battery mode for DVD watching and,
2. load the same movie (without file compression) to hard drive (suppose to consume less lower).

I am crossing my figures now.

Maximum battery mode will give you 600mhz if your minimum multiplier is 6x.

Even if the player sets a different power profile, it should not be messing with the actual voltages CHC has for each multiplier.
