Have you tried your laptop elsewhere (work, Starbuck, etc) and does it connect well?

hmmm... Belkin routers have their ups and downs, I guess. their pre-N one is supposed to be great, although it's really expensive. For a more budget router, I'd recommend a 802.11g-compatible router by Linksys or D-Link.

I just picked up a Linksys conpact G at Amazon for 49.00 shipped and it work great even without the high gain antenna attached.

I didn't order it as I figure I'll try it without first and it turns out that I have no problem thruout the house. A friend who is using one said that although it claim a 8db gain he actually got about 10bd gain from using it.

traithoinay, if you have problems with your wireless router only a couple feet away, then there is some issue either with your router or wireless card. A set of high gain antennas can cost more than a new router.Spending money on high gain antennas will not help you in this situation. See if you can try a different router or wireless card to trroubleshoot. Or just start over and set everything to default.

Yea, I don't think a highgain antenna will solve your problem. Look for firmware updates for your router and if that didn't work, time to try a new one.
