Doom 3

Hey guys, i wanted to know which laptop was better for playing doom 3
I think i've narrowed it down to three choices

Asus z71v
1024 mb RAM
Nvidia 6600 PCI Express video card
128 mb video ram
Pentium M 2.0 GHZ

I don't really like the look of it or the price, but if it's as good as everyone says....

Sager 3880
same specs as above but with WUXGA screen (1920 x 1200) looks nicer too

Sager 4880
same as other two but with ATI mobility X700 256 mb and 1400 x 1050 SXGA+

I would appreciate any help i could get as well as advice on other machines or additional things such as more RAM or a diff. processor.

THANKS!

The x700 256MB trumps the 6600 128mb. And since GPU is the main thing that determines 3D gaming performance, the last one you mention should be the clear-cut winner. The "x-factor" in all of this is OpenGL which Doom 3 uses and nVidia is designed for. So there might not be a huge difference between the cards.

If your limit is 1,800 bucks, you may want to consider the Inspiron 9300 with the 6800go.

Just my opinion.

Yeah the XPS2, the 9300 can almost but you'll be playing at ~30 FPS maxed out so for the 9300 I reccomend playing on High, not ultra and just knocking off some of the small effects. I think 40-50 FPS is good for Doom III.

inspiron 9300 vs Np 3880, 4880 and asus z71v

dell 9300 config at
Pentium M 1.86
1 GB of ram (Transcend 1GB 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) Notebook Memory) bought of newegg (pls tell me it works!)
256 nvidia 6800
80 gb hard drive

is this machine going to beat out the ones at the top? it costs a lot more, 1860$

or any other machines that seem to be capable...

I am using 2 GBs of Transcend from Newegg, just do a memtest when you get it to make sure you have no errors

still doubts

how much did you pay for your inspiron? Right now it's still too expensive for me... is the graphics card rerally that much better? I heard sager's excellent.
$1645 before the Ram, the Transcend Ram was $132.50 when I ordered it, so just add 265 to 1645

The graphic card is the same, the 6800go but the Dell is going to be much cheaper
