Firewire 800 or no?

Well, all the websites I've been looking at for the Z71V say that it comes with 1394b, which is supposed to be firewire 800. But all the pictures i've seen, and some reviews i've read, say that it's really just a 4-pin firewire connector, which kinda blows 'cause that was something I really liked about the Z71v. So can anyone tell me which type of connector it really is?

Any other notebooks out there with either 6-pin connectors or 1394b connectors?

There are very few laptop with 6pin firewire other than the Apple powerbook series and some of the 17" DTR machine.

It is a 4-pin (but it says 1394 right beside it).

You can always use a 6pin to 4 pin connector you know. All you lose withthe 4 pin is the ability to trickle charge devices that can be recharged like the Ipod.

Why would you want to recharge a device from a laptop, it doesn't make much sense, hence the 4 pin port?

A 6 pin to 4 pin connector would run about 3 dollars and change.

So there's not really any products out there that actually get their power from the firewire connection, like an external harddrive or a soundcard or anything? that was my only concern with the 4-pin connectors, but if i don't really need the two powered pins of the 6-pin connector, i guess the 4-pin will be fine.

Now I just wonder why Asus advertises it as 1394b?

the only notebooks with 800 firewire are Apple Powerbooks (and possibly iBooks), to the best of my knowledge

IEEE1394b aka Firewire 800Mb/s uses a 9-pin connector.

IEEE1394a aka Firewire 400Mb/s uses a 6-pin or a 4-pin connector.

That's what I thought, but apparently Asus doesn't know that, because the Z71V appears to have a 4-pin firewire connector, but it's listed as having 1394b. Anyone who has a z71v able to comment on this?
