x800xt vs 6800ultra benchmarks and scaling question

Thread Starter
so there are these 2 articles:

http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2437
http://www.anandtech.com/printarticle.aspx?i=2356

the 1280x1024 numbers are sort of comparable. i say sort of b/c the platforms are different. but in the xt article they have benchmarks @ 1680x1050 while the ultra article has benchmarks @ 1600x1200. the latter resolution is about 9% higher than the former. can the scores @ 1600x1200 be scaled up 9% or the 1680x1050 scores be scaled 9% down to compare the results at the "same" resolution?

basically, do benchmarks scale linearly with resolution?

ultra is way faster

well at 1280x1024 w/ no aa+af the ultra's advantage varies from ~4% to 14%. but w/ aa+af, the ultra is anywhere from being ~11% slower to 12% faster. guess on how you define "way faster".

but my question remains, do benchmarks scale linearly w/ resolution?

Would imagine they'd scale linearly by pixel-area.

Looks like the new MRx800xt is exactly as I predicted; it offers no significant gains in performance. Since the 6800 ultra go and mrx800xt have such similar performance in games, I'd like to see if there is any difference in battery life.

from Tom's hardware:

Features of the notebook chip are comparable to the desktop processor. The Mobility Radeon X800 XT integrates 16 pipelines, six vertex shaders and support for up to 256 MByte 256-bit GDDR3 memory. The PCI Express-based processor is built in 0.13 nm, allows screen resolutions up to QXGA (2048 x 1536 pixel). A surpising feature is a significantly lower consumption than the competing Nvidia chip: In contrast to the more than 65 watts of the GeForce Go 6800 Ultra, ATI's mobile chips consumer only 35 watts, according to an AT spokeswoman.

Its pretty sad that a 12 pixel/5 vertex pipeline card can run toe-to-toe with a 16 pixel/6 vertex shader card. I pretty much doubt the power consumption figures too until we see real world results and not ATi PR BS. Oh yeah the nVidia card also has more features so don't forget about that: PS 3.0, PureVideo, OpenEXR HDR and Digital Vibrance.
