8887 sound skipping

Not sure why or when this started happening. But I just started playing music on my 8887 at work and anything I play skips really badly. Every 5 to 10 seconds their is a blip in the song.

I tested this is Winamp and WIndows Media Player both WAV and MP3 files do it. I tried upgrading to the latest Realtek ac97 drivers and closing all apps and stopping lots of services. Nothing has any affect so far. There is no HD load or CPU load at all that could be causing it. No antivirus or any other type of software running in the background other than VMWare and Microsoft Antispyware (both which when closed and disbaled don't have any affect).

Any ideas what I might try? I also tried changing buffer setting in Winamp. But it didn't help.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

ah HA!!

I found it shortly after this post. Not sure why or how. But it turned out that the Wireless Zero Configuration service was the culprit. This is very odd.... since i'm not even using wireless. Maybe the service is constantly probing for wireless which is making my sound skip? After disabling the service I haven't had one skip, even under heavy work load.

Hopefully this will be of some help to someone.

I think i have had this problem before on a desktop with XP, no service packs. I formatted and put SP2 on it, and have had no problems. THanks for the info.
