Ordering Process:

I purchased this rig on a Thursday night right before the $600 mail in rebate expired. I put a $1,350 down payment on the machine, and financed the rest but since I already had going through the financing process when I bought my Aurora last November, the process was fast, took three days to process and another 3 to ship.

Phases:

This Aurora would be my 5th Alienware PC. One previous Area-51 desktop
ordered in late 90s, an Area-51m which you are all probably very familiar
with (ordered in summer of 02).

(pic: Area-51 and first SENTIA)

And of course my 2nd Area-51m after my laptop being lost by Fedex.

My Area-51m SENTIA ordered in the summer of 03. (pic: next to Sony-Series)

And my rebuilt Area-51m after the sadness.

Phase 12: May 30th
Phase 14: May 31st
The order was processed so quickly I didn’t even get a chance to see the other phase dates.

It arrived on the Friday June 3rd. My father came home for lunch and the FEDEX guy was just leaving. The FEDEX guy said, “since I come here so often with packages, I don’t need anyone to sign for it.” I laughed when my father told me that.

Shipping and Packaging:

Fastest shipping yet from Alienware. This is mainly due to the SENTIA not having any “limited availability” parts, but still, receiving my system in 1 week was great. My machine actually arrived a day earlier than the expected shipping date on the tracking number.

Reasoning:

Many of you may think I go through computers like water. But I’ve recently sold almost all of my PCs as well as making a trade with Lawson on NBF. He offered me his 3 week old Dell 9300 for my 2.5 year old first generation SENTIA which I took. I figured the value of the 9300 was greater than my SENTIA, so I took the trade, and sold the DELL for $1,350. That $1,350 I used for the down payment on my new SENTIA.

Since my disaster on my first Alienware which can be read about here, I wanted something small, that did not consume a lot of power, light weight, mainly used for word processing or surfing. I don’t need a gaming laptop anymore with two very awesome gaming PCs so I narrowed it down to 5 laptops. The SENTIA, Sony S-series, Dell m600/ m700, IBM - T-Series or the Sager – 3880.

I didn’t pick the S-series because I felt their systems were even pricier than Alienware’s and Sony didn’t even offer any MIBs. The IBM seems liked it was directed more towards business use and prices were still kind of high for their specs. I had already preached that my next laptop be a Sager and I really wanted it…bad…but I could not justify the 7.5lbs being their lightest laptop. I think they need to bring that down considerably to appeal to the thin and light market. So it was down to Dell and Alienware and since I have such a good reputation at Alienware, I decided to go with the SENTIA.

In Conclusion:

I was a little worried that the 12inch screen would not be big enough to my liking, but it turns out it is perfect. I can carry it anywhere, to class, back home, on trips without lugging around something bulky and heavy like my first AREA-51m or the DELL 9300. The battery life is great too and although I haven’t tested its full potential, I can only guess that it will beat out my first generation SENTIA which I tested to last longer then 4 hours.
