Screen flickers like crazy

To start off my system:

8890
16" sxga
1024gb
60gb 5400
3.0

On certain games when the game first launches it flickers like crazy. Desert Combat for example does it really bad and some others. When I quit the game the screen still flickers a lot and you can really tell it on darker colors with light colors in it. It really hurts the eyes. Also I leave the computer on downloading a lot and I close the screen while overnight. When I open it back up sometimes it blinks a lot too. Its crazy and its getting really annoying.

I currently have the Omega 3.8's on it with WinXP pro w/ SP1

Sorta sounds like a broken or loose ribbon cable connecting the mobo and the screen.

yeah but it only does it when I start a game or when the lcd is closed for a while.

Its kind of like looking at a monitor running 800x600 100Hz and then going to 1024x768 60Hz. Its weird

still does it although not as bad.

I had the same thing on my 8890, and it's with sager right now. I sent it in because of the gimp USB ports, but I noticed the problem as well so I mentioned it to them. Hopefully they'll know what's wrong and fix it...

Also, does your screen kinda jump between brightnesses at the lowest brightness setting? It's really hard to describe, it kinda "flickers" really slowly between different brightness levels at the lowest brightness setting, and becomes very annoying...

I heard there might be some screen flicker issues with the newest BIOS update... Have you done the update?

No i didn't have the shifting in the brightness level. I did flash my bios. Once for the ctrl/fn swap and another for the option to turn off the beep.

Hm... I guess I'll be seeing if it's the bios flash that was bad... I just got an email from sager saying they didn't notice the problem, so they won't replace the screen... They replaced my motherboard, which hopefully won't have the flash, and then I'll see if there's any flickering with it.

I had a screen flicker problem that was fixed by removing Nero Vision. Give that a try.

It's the DVD authoring software that comes with Nero. It made my screen flicker when I opened certain movie types and some games. It's anyones guess as to why it did this to my 8890...

I just removed that part of the Nero software and no more flickering.
