Anything wrong with the R series Thinkpads?

Hello all,
You guys have me hesitating to pull the trigger. An overwhelming majority on this forum seem to favor the T series models. Why? Is there something I'm missing? Weight may be the one drawback that stands out. Anything else? I need to know - was thinking of purchasing an R52, loaded for $1300.
Welcoming any and all advice, suggestions.
Thanks, mklaw

Depends on what you're looking for. The T series are lightweight and extremely mobile, for even more mobility there's the X series, and the R series are desktop replacements. What is it you'll be doing with your laptop for the next few years?

Just basic use. No games, no spreadsheets, etc. I do my personal financing, bill paying, etc. Right now I use my computer on a daily basis. I'm looking for something that will still be useful to me in the next five years atleast, technically. Having a hard time deciding on what I really need in a laptop. Don't want to regret not getting certain features down the road.

I think they'll both do what you want them to do.. I think it might be helpful to know whether you have a mobile computing lifestyle, or want one for that matter, or is your new laptop going stay in one place.. I confused the R series for the G series.. the G series is the desktop replacement, but basically the R series is a heavier version of the T series. It seems that its the earlier design whereas the newest T series are the latest and greatest. Personally, I say go with a T.

The construction of the R-series is not as good as the T-series.

Hmm I thought so too. So what do you think is better built:
IBM R50e or Toshiba Tecra A3?

R50 is wonderful, I have 2 of those, and a T40 and a Dell, and outta all of those the R50 has a great design, and is well built. Get the R50 if your a big guy especially...I love how big it is, cuz Im 6'5 and 265 lbs. so I feel that the full sized keyboard is perfect for me! And the laptop is great for me...but I could see if you were 5'6-5'10 or 5'11 this might be a little big for your liking....but I love my R50, and my mom loves her R50!!!!

From what I've heard, the R series is almost as durable as the T, except it uses heavier ABS plastic instead of metal. It should be no more than 1-2 pounds heavier than the T though.
