8890 won't resume

Hi all,

So far 8890 is working fairly well -- would say an 8 out of a 10, but thats just because of a few minor, but irritating issues. Chied among these is the inability to resume after system has been put into standby. Thw computer seems to power all the way down, and when I press the power key to 'revive', the system seems to lock in the POST phase of bootup (not even a BIOS screen, as it should be). Just the fan and a black screen....

Ideas? Anyone else run into this? WinXP Pro, etc...

Is Hibernate enabled? If so, try disabling it completely. It gave me similar problems so I don't use it anymore. Maybe it's really going into Hibernate instead of Standby. Also, "loosen" up your other Power Schemes (high time values or Never) and see if it helps. STANDBY, by definition I believe, is not supposed to power all the way down, thus on batteries, for example, it would eventually drain them completely. You might check your BIOS settings, and disable power savings there until you're squared away. Keep us "posted".

WHen you put the system into standby, it leaves the RAM powered, and probalby shuts off the CPU, defintely shuts off all drives, screen, etc.

Hibernate saves contents of RAM to the hard drive and physically shuts off the computer.

If the computer is in hibernating mode, it would turn on as if the computer had been off (you should get a BIOS screen like normal).

Check that all the drivers are working and are up to date, especially the video drivers.

Thanks for the replies, but its not that basic a problem. I am fairly computer literate, and it's not a matter of hitting the right button. When I click 'standby' or hit the keys to make the computer go to standby, Windows closes out as I'd suspect ('preparing to standby...'). However, the computer powers all the way down. My buddies 8890 has the power LED 'breathing' showing he is suspended -- mione does not, and when I press power button to resume, the computer will power up but no activity and no windows resume. I have to hold power button for 4 seconds, power down, then startup from scratch...

Any help would be greatly apprecaited. Almost like the bios does not recognize computer should be asleep, not turned off...
