TM8104 - What is acceptable hard disk temp?

Hi!

I was cleaning (complete scan) my registry using System Mechanic, jv16 PowerTools and System Suite when Drive Health reported my Toshiba hard disk temp to be 50 deg C. I then further use Adaware and Spy Sweeper to do a complete clean and that was when Drive Health reported 55 deg C

I dare not continue to use anti-virus and anti-trojan to do a complete scan for fear that the hard disk temp might rise further.

Could somebody advise as to what's the acceptable temp for the hard disk?

Is Drive Health report reliable? If not, what program(s) to use?

Thanks

According to Centrino Hardware Control, 55 Celcius is about the hottest you want to get it.

Re

Hi Djembe_Rob,

So what happens after 55 deg C? A complete meltdown or auto system shutdown or what?

The use of complete scanning/cleaning (C: and D: drives) apparently cause the continuously running of the hard disk which resulted in the temp rise.

After a stagnant period

SpeedFan reported hard disk temp at 46 deg C and ACPI at 64 deg C
DRive Health reported hard disk temp at 47 deg C

hot stuff!!!

Seriously the main concern of hard drives is not so much how hot they get but how quicky the temperature changes are. Slow and gradual changes are considered safe. Obviously there is a temperature limit, but it should be a bit higer than 55 deg c.
