It's not that we shouldn't. It's that we can't.

Since these don't work with the Mobility 9600, I just installed the standard Catalyst drivers (all it takes is modifying two lined in the inf file) - saw about a 50% boost in framerates over the 5.5 catalysts with higher settings than I was using under 5.5. I fyou have an ATI card, I'd recommend gettting these drivers ASAP.

I just grabbed them and got a 210 point increase in 3dMark05.

No Mobility Radeon 9700 support?

I hope someone will make a patcher to enable these drivers to install for all Mobility Radeon chips.

*bump*

Anyone hear anything about supporting the previous generation mobility cards (9600, 9700, 9800...) OR has anyone seen an "unlocked" version of the Mobility Catalyst 5.8 drivers that we could try to install?

I've got a Ferarri 3200 w/ a 9700, and when I try modding the latest Catalysts (5.6 - 5.8) and installing them (after a thorough cleaning each time), For most games I simply get a black screen with game audio in the background. Fun fun fun! So I'm understandably impatient about new drivers...
