ZD8000 GPU Bad?

I've been enjoying my decked out ZD8000 for about a month now. I got the all the best options including the x600 with 256mb ram, 2gb RAM, etc. Graphics and everything are great! However a couple of days ago I decided I would install a game to play so I installed Unreal Tournament 2004 (fresh copy from BestBuy). But within about 2 minutes playing the game the game graphics get very pixelized with discolored pixels showing up everywhere. I proceeded to call Epic Games (maker of Unreal Tournament 2004) and they couldn't find the solution. I then installed another game EVE (some mass online game) but the same thing, you can barely view the graphics within a few minutes of game as the GPU becomes unstable.

My question is has anyone else experienced these issues? Even HP couldn't help. A guy a work thinks it's because the GPU is getting too hot. He says this happens to him when he tries to overclock his GPU. I've tried everything, Omega Drivers, underclocking, overclocking but nothing helps. Any suggestions? DirectX Diagnostic's show all is good as well.

I think I would uninstall the OMEGA drivers. I have heard they have screwed up many a video card. Including the Nvidias. Try that and see what happens. If that doesn't help, use the restore cd and start over with everything at the default settings. Still doesn't? Try ATI. Maybe not necessarily in this order. My bet is the OMEGA DRIVERS.

This all started with the latest HP drivers, I only went with the Omega drivers to see if that would help, I'm currently on the HP right now though.

hey man , i know exactly what you mean , ive been to the same ordeal with the omega drivers and back to hp's .
talked to HP no good, talked to ati , allso no good.

what happens to me is that i get the vpu crash on the card, every few minuts of playing a game..
other then that the computer is good, hot but good,...
its amazing you get to spend so much money over a mechince and it sucks as bad as that , you cant even play a frigin game !!

i tryied gta3 as well , and that gets stuck to many times .
i dont understand why ati's catalyst doesnt install on the hp's system .. have they changed it that much , if so they should support us with better drivers.. newer ones..
let me know if you get anything going... or succeeding to fix this issue.
good luck

Try lifting up the back of the laptop with like a large book... that will help it cool down...

Also i recommend starting over with the restore CD's... I'll bet that will fix it... If you talk to really smart people at HP in the USA, they will even tell you they have huge suggess with using the restore cd's and doing a fresh install..

Also like i said, use a book to lift the back of the laptop up...

I use the smaller box that came with the notebook. Its about 1.75 inch thick, and a little bigger than the laptop, and it raises the laptop up some while sitting in my recliner surfing or gaming.

I would try the restore cd and see if you can game with the original stuff. Like they say, don't fix it if it ain't broke. This might include drivers.

Would it be ok to just reinstall Windows without the restore CDs and just use my MSDN licenses, etc and reinstall drivers off of HP's site? I hate installing it with all their crap.

You can try it but from what i have seen you have a better chance using the stock software... Also, HP makes the disks now so that you get to chose EXACTLY what you want installed and not... So all that crap doesnt get installed... Even i do it that way because its easier & i get to install only what i want... nothing else...
