How many processes do you currently have running?

Startup was really starting to bother me, the welcome screen must have stayed for at least 10 seconds. I didn't know what program was causing it so I decided to go into the services and stop the ones I felt were not important. Before I did that I took screenshots of what services were current set just incase something got jacked up. Well anyways I went from 39 running processes (with nothing open) to 27 (with nothing open). I still have a few things that need to disable. Now upon startup I barely see the welcome screen and I am much happier! Anyways guys, list your PC model and how many processes you have running.

Do not mess with the services unless you know what you are doing. And if you do disable things, you better make a list of what you stopped.

Did a fresh install yesterday and had 22 running processes before loading up applications. After setting up wireless access and internet browser it's gone up to 34.

Guess you guys don't have Bluetooth or Quickset installed?

I have 44 processes running, but I know exactly what they are. I'm a bit peeved that the Bluetooth adapter requires 5 processes. The wireless drivers also have about 4 processes running.

I found out that this was a pretty helpful site in deciding which processes were OK to disable.

http://www.processlibrary.com/

All the required running processes are BS, just give me the the one that makes the internet work lol

I have to check what I have. The thing about stopping services, whether I know them or not is I will never know if and when I will need them. It's not as simple as Messenger service On the other hand, As far as norton is concerned, yes, it does run a couple services which slows the system down a bit on load time. I haven't yet found a better anti-virus software. I guess I'm just a loyal norton fan. Then again, just yesterday, it caused problems in me being able to send email due to their email outgoing scanning bit problem.

Just to clarify, if we want to disable some things, the best thing is what?

1. Delete what is in the startup folder?
2. Go to MSCONFIG?

1. No
2. eh...nah/kinda

Proper way is to disable the service.

Start>Programs>Administrative Tools>Services.

Note the ones that are started. Double click the ones you want to modify. Under the startup type pull down menu set it to disabled.
