Wireless Gaming

Hey all, its me again with another question.

I just set up my NetGear 54 Mbps router with our cable broadband modem, and got wireless internet through our house, which works great. Both the desktop and my laptop now have fast internet. However, only the desktop can seem to play games online such as WoW and Starcraft. Anyone know why this is? When I try to log into WoW, it says I might not be connected to the internet, but I really am and can visit websites quickly. Anyone know how to solve this? Thanks in advance!

Sounds like a firewalling/port forwarding issue.

darilon,

could you expand on that or direct us to a website or thread, I am having the same problem connecting to certain sites through my laptop which shares internet with my desktop.

disable windows firewall or enter a custom rule for the port wow utilizes.

I access WoW through wireless networks all the time - haven't had a single issue. I've had some issues with the connection dropping, but that's it. What you might want to check is that you're actually connecting to your wireless network and not a nearby network. The default MS behavior for wireless devices is to lock onto the strongest signal, even if it's not the 'home' network.
