oh man ive read in gentoo forums how to fix ur problems a couple of days ago,

LDPS, AUTO switch to AUTO,LDPS

i hear that makes a difference, the black screen is a simple problem to fix

Dude, if you read the thread i quoted earlier, you will notice that i mentioned i already tried that, and every other combination, AUTO, LDPS/LDPS, AUTO/AUTO, AUTO/LDPS, LDPS. None of them worked. Also if you read through my thread, you will notice i mentioned that i worked with Wedge from the Gentoo forums (who wrote the ATI linux FAQ located here: http://odin.prohosting.com/wedge01/g...adeon-faq.html ). He didn't know what was going on. /var/log/Xorg.0.log has no (EE) errors. It helps to read/search other threads because a lot of the information has already been covered

no need to get offended, but try the gentoo forums again, cause i did find someone with a similar problem wich fixed it.

also try running ubunto with the rpm ati drivers and see if that works, cause if it does then u know it will work on gentoo.

ive read that using gentoos source ati drivers cs ati properity drivers makes a difference also, some people cant even get the source to work but the ati properity runs fine out of the box.

dont give up, im sure it will work there must be a way.

I've tried both the gentoo emerge ati drivers and ATI's tar. Ive tried compiling against the gentoo-sources patched kernel and the vanilla sources. no luck. I've posted on gentoo forums many times, but no one has anything new. I believe it has something to do with the card itself that is used in the clevo m400a (the 256meg card) because in windows, the omega drivers wouldnt even work/install properly. I have posted on ATI's bug tracker and been in communication with ATI support (if you can even call it communication....). Hopefully they can help. If you dont have any ideas other than "check the forums again," I'm done

I agree frosted, its gotta be the card itself because l also had the same issues with omega in windows. Actually, before ATI released its new notebook driver catalysts, i couldnt get ANY driver other than the standard clevo ones to run on windows, which means that this card is an oddball one and probably requires special care.

Even with the new mobility drivers, the ati Control Center crashes everytime i try to load it in windows with the 256mb X700 in the 4880. I agree that it is just some oddball card that is throwing things off

It crashes because you dont have the .net framework installed. Try installing this sucker, and it should work if you're getting the error I think you are.

The card itself, while oddball, is very powerful, considering I get a good 300-400 point jump in 3dmark05 over the regular 128 meg version.
