I didn't know about that

LOL... so Dellbert will I be expecting a review on this some time soon?

Heh, I'm pretty happy with my Samsung (I got one with no light leakage). But now that I know the LCDs are compatible, I'm going to be very tempted to "evaluate" a Sony A600 from Best Buy....

Great, looking foward to it... haha

Thanks again VasVas

How did you determine it's compatible? The Sony with a x600 uses about 160+ watts.
Where did you get 160W? The LCD on the 9300/XPS2 only takes 7W, so I doubt that an LCD with two lights would take more than 15W or so.
Last I looked at the power supply spec, it was about 158+ watts, can't remember exactly. There are 2 power adapters that work with the Sony A. Even if it's just 15w, can you just swap it? Do find out for us!
Well, the original poster in this thread has already verified that the WXGA+ works, so I'd be surprised if the WUXGA didn't. BTW, the power brick wattage doesn't mean much. It probably just does a quick charge of the battery with that kind of wattage, but if the lappy really used 160W, a 9-cell battery would only last 30 minutes.

vasvas, did they ask you for your Sony laptop s/n? If anyone can get the LCD by calling.. I might want to replace mine..

On a somewhat related note, anyone know if I9400/XPS3 might come out anytime this year? Perhaps it'll have better screens?
if you're telling me that my 9300 lcd cable will plug into the sharp model on ebay I'd be very interested... gotta research if the specs/wires match up and power draw however

My brother works in pcworld (in the UK), he is the one who came up with this idea.
all the LCDs 17'' are the same size (L-W-D),so no problems fitting the LCD inside the frame, for the connectors I'll ask my brother how did he do it (he is the expert).I think no modifications were made. For the PSU ,my laptop has no problem dealing with the new screen (see the pictures).

That is so cool to hear. If someone had done this before I sold my Sony, I would have done it, too. But I didn't want to be the McGuinness pig.

Wait a minute...

So, uh, after reading all of these posts, I still am not sure if anyone said if the WUXGA Sharp panels are compatible with the iXPS Gen 2's or not... Am I on the right page here, thinking that no one knows for sure yet, and no one is trying it out yet? I would sure as heck buy one in a heartbeat!!! Those panels ROCK HARD compared to this POS Samsung I have on mine... -JB

An illegal idea. Buy a sony laptop with the screen you like, replace the screen, return it and get a refund.

Already been said like 50 times in this thread, LOL! Anyways, can't wait for someone to try the swap. -JB

So far I am sceptical. The OP can not even tell how the fitting was done (of the leads and connector, that is).
Frankly I do not believe it as the Sony screen uses another bulb and requires more power.

The screen doesn't use up that much power of the total consumed power of the notebook. In any case, the battery can power the appropriate power, it just has less operating time to do so.

I imagine he's telling the truth but his brother was the one who actually changed the screen.
