Inspiron XPS gen 2 with sony A417S LCD....the BEST you can get!!! - Page 5

It is still on my planner if I can get my hands on a decently priced LCD panel. Havent had any time as of late to do anything....and it sucks.

*EDIT* Ok so I started looking around for a panel. Only 1 I could find on ebay is $449 w/ a buyout of $529. Are all Sony 17" WUXGA Xbrites the same? This one is listed as follows:

NEW SONY VAIO VGN-A190 17" UXGA LAPTOP LCD LQ170M1LA04

Its a bit more than I wanted to spend but assuming I can buy a new Panel plug and sell my Samsung on ebay it might not be too bad. I will have to ponder it over and review my finances.

i don't think it's worth spending 500 on a pc that's worth 1200 or so... it's a disposable PC and why not get a nice 20 inch external monitor without voiding warranty on your laptop?

Why would I buy a laptop if I wanted an external monitor?
In theory I would not be spending $500 if I sold my Samsung for say $300.

I dont mean to come off as rude in any way. I understand perfectly well that you may not want to do this mod. I may not do it in the end. However, it interests me and I am willing to do some research on it.

Anyone have any links to purchasing this LCD panel?

This came up through web search. Never deal with them before and it seems like price of most recent laptop LCD is only available by calling them.

I will shoot them an email and see how bad the damage would be.

Thanks!

Another retailer here

ebay $529 lookin like a bargain
damn thats exactly what I want dell to use!
Update:
screentek does not have any in stock.
the retail price does appear to be near $1000
I have not called Sony to find a price from them

I am gonna figure out my bills for the month in the next day or 2 and decide if it is worth putting a bid in on that LCD. Maybe I can catch it for the $449.

Ebay did not have any 17" Samsung LCDs up for auction that I could find. Makes it tough to see if my old LCD would sell or not and for how much.

My only hesitation would be if it did not work I can't stomach the financial loss. I suppose I could buy another cable and resell it. Is it worth all the trouble? Common sense would tell me no. Klas has already told me no. Yet something about a Sony Xbrite in my 9300 keeps telling me yes.

I will keep you guys updated in the next few days as to what I decide.

All this talk and my qosmio screen wipes the floor with em all.

DonK5y, you can inquire with Dell what your LCD part cost, then price it accordingly.

ya know I managed to not even think of that. Thanks for the suggestion!

Anyone have a link to where to buy a new cable plug for the samsung/dell display?
I would recommend calling up Dell spare parts. I am sure they would have one laying around. Not sure of cost as I have not made the call myself yet. You thinkin of switching screens?
Has anybody besides the original poster actually completed this?!
Not too many people seem interested in switching out a WUXGA screen for a WXGA screen. I assume they are waiting for someone to try putting in a WUXGA Sony Xbrite. The price of the Sony WUXGA is a bit steep though. Its tough trying to justify the cost.

Yes. Not sure when though. If I can get ahold of a samsung plug it would be better, because I dont want to cut the one off this one. So I can resell it, if someone would buy it.

I am kind of in the same boat. I think at this point I am gonna buy new golf clubs instead. Not being able to return the screen if it does not work would be a financial burden I could not stomach right now. Not to mention that selling my Samsung has no guarantees with it either. I need a raise...
Why doesnt the original poster actually post a proper step by step guide?

Why dont they post how and where they got the PLUG that was samsung/lg compatible?

Also, if someone is fluent with opening things up they could BB or CC an LCD just to try this out.

regarding LCD cable part numbers

Well...I have in my hand the cable for my 9300's LG WUXGA panel.

Here's the info on the stickers (one on the cable, one on the pulltab of the video card connector):

Cable->
CN-0F5399-12803-55N-L3LG
REV A00 (made in china)

Plug->
DAO20 17"
P/N: DC025073100
APR 25, 2005
Wanshih REV. 1.0

The plug you use for your original screen is the same plug you'd use for the Sony panel. The connector on the motherboard/graphics card is different, but the panels all use the same VESA interface on the panel end.
