8690... abandoned?

post #1 of 6

Hi everyone.
I have a sager 8690 laptop that I bought last summer and recently i tried to update my drivers (because i wanted to play half life 2 and it said my video card driver is out of date... kinda weird because I've been playing half life 2 since it's release) and when I go to the sager's website the 8690 model isn't there anymore...
My computer has a Mobility Radeon 9700 graphics card and I don't think the ATI website even has the mobile drivers! I don't know what to do anymore...

Why don't you take a look at ATI's website again? You might find something of interest to you. Assuming, of course, that the words Catalyst Mobility would possibly ring any bells for you.

From the ATI website for the Catalyst Mobility:
https://support.ati.com/ics/support/...ge&folderID=27
Graphics technologies supported

* Mobility™ Radeon® X800
* Mobility™ Radeon® X700

Being that he has the 9700 it probally won't help him. Try downloading the "Instalation Check" program at the bottom of the catalyst mobility page and see if it says its compatable. If that fails try contacting ATI through their website and see what they recomend.

Have you tried contacting Sager or OC torque about this as well?

Okay I just tried it and it is not compatable. No I have not yet tried to contact sager or pc torque. I bought this from powernotebooks.com but I ususally get the drivers from the main sager notebook... seeing that they're the ones who supply the drivers for all the specific laptops.

Perhaps you're thinking of the 8790?
post #6 of 6
I think that you have the 8790, I recently updated the drivers from the Sager website with no problem.

ATI does not support drivers for laptops that are out-of-date. So you have to use Sager, and just get the 8790 drivers. It is the same graphic card, especially if it has 256 megs of RAM.

Hope this helps.
