Sony Vaio S480 ???

Hello,

I've been searching for reviews on the VAIO S480 on this forum as well as other websites, but have not found anything other than a few sentences about it. A Sony rep told me that the S480 is replacing the S380. She said it has some new features added to it. I'm looking to purchase a new notebook asap. I like this notebook, but would like to read some reviews first and compare it to other quality brands, because I'm not sure which one I want yet.

Does anyone have this particular model or know anything about it? Also, does anyone know when the S480 was released on the market?

I concur...I have not been able to find any reviews on the 480. Was wondering what has been changed from the 380. Has the heat been taken care of, is the battery life longer, is the power brick smaller? Etc...

Sony S480

I have the S480.
I ordered it from Sonystyle.com
the only other place to get it was from the sony shops. but those are preconfigured.

Online i customized mine with
1.73ghz, 512mb DDR2, NV6200,xbrite, BT / wifi b/g, DVD-RW.

I think the only difference between this and the 380 was the graphics and memory type. i believe 380 used DDR memory and ATI chip (64mb dedicated)
this one uses DDR2 and 512shared.

as for battery life, i get about 2-2.5 hrs of batery life with wifi turned on and doing websurf and word processing. this is from that 6cell small battery.
pretty good.

I'd say order it on line, mine came with the 2yr warranty and free shipping for about $1950.

if you bought it at store i'll be about $2k, i'm not sure about warranty.

How are the "blacks" on the S480 LCD? Are they completely solid black or do you have some charcoal tones to them. I think Sony is using a different LCD manufacturer and the blacks that I saw on the S300 series were a bit darker.

I ordered the SONY VAIO S480. Yay! I added the following specs:
XBrite Screen, nVIDEA GeForce 6200 graphics, a/b/g with BT, CD-RW + DVD RAM (I have a SONY 16X External DVD Burner), 100GB HD, 1GB X 1 Mem, Pent-M(770) 2.13 GHz, WinXP Prof, Video Prem, Music Plus, Photo Plus, 2yr on site warranty + accidental damage.

I was so unhappy w/ my prev notebook because I didn't get any addt'l specs when I ordered my DELL almost 2 years ago. In fact, I hated it when I first took it out of the box! I don't want to regret anything when I receive my new SONY. I figure, hey, if I'm going to spend a lot on a new notebook, I might as well go all the way. Yes-I am a compulsive shopper!

Maybe after I use it for a little while I'll submit a review. (Joseph--I'll let you know about the "blacks" on the LCD.)

I never played games before. I'm looking into getting a few games to try out, since I have a good computer now. Is it good? What's it about? I'll just do a search for it to check it out.
