HP DV1040 speed and heating problems

Thread Starter
Got a DV1040 that is now running @ 600 MHz according to the mobilemeter software. This is after the computer GPU reached 90-95 degrees C. Would a fresh restore fix this problem? Has anyone experienced this problem?

Thanks,

Kenneth S. Lew

A restore most likely would not fix the problem but its worth a try...

You can try talking to HP about it...

Try putting like a book behind it to lift the back end up an inch or so... This drops my temps 10+c

Or try a notebook cooler...

The highest temperature I have seen on a dv1000/CompaqV2000 is about 70C. Thats too high for a cpu. I suggest you contact HP. Is the fan running at the highest rpm. The processor might be underclocking itself to avoid overheating. Although they use Spedstep to conserve power, it(clockspeed) should move up & down as & when req'd.

Does the laptop get too hot to touch. It should if the temps are around 90C???

Sounds like the CPU fan isn't cooling. Might be bad or going bad. I thought that in the bios there was an auto shut down to prevent the CPU from reaching such high temps. I know there is on the desk top mother boards. On my gigabyte mother board there is a desk top program where you can set fan minimum speed limits for the fans and max temp limits for the cpu. You can also over clock through the program, (Called EASY TUNE). I have mine (CPU) set low 50 degrees max temp. Before I added my additional fans (2x tornando fans, & 3 80mm case fans, 1 5.5 inch slot and 1 HDD, max 32-35 degrees now) my temp went to 58 degrees once during some heavy gaming and a loud warning came through the speakers, lol you would of thought I was having a huge meltdown. I'm sure its a fan problem, the CPU is under clocking to save it.

Pentium-M's shutdown at about 100 - 105c or so...
