Adding memory will not void your warranty. Dell gives instructions on how to do it. If you send it in for warranty repair, remove the upgraded memory. Only memory purchased from Dell is covered under the warranty.
Buy your memory elsewhere it will come with its own warranty. Memory is not a component that is prone to failure. Test the memory with MemTest or something else. If you have memory problems, they will show quickly.
