HP ZE5000S w/ Dock and KVM Issues

Hello all Am I glad I found this forum! Tons of information here is awsome! Like everyone else I need to pick some brains...

I have a HP ZE5000S. I have a dock for at home and work. I also have KVM switches at home and work. Well on one switch the mouse will work and the other nothing works. Is this a issue with the dock? Also since I installed omega drivers the laptop display doen not turn off when docked. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? I would really like to be able to KVM this machine!

Thank You

Damien

No i dont but its worth a try... I too use KVM's at all offices i work at... What kind of KVM do you have? I noticed that with many cheaper KVM's you will have problems like that... I had to go for a $400 setup which i pulled from a server...

Anyways have you tried rapidly switching between like computer A & B? or anything like that?

What have you tried...

Also as for the Omega/Lid thing, i had that problem too but i dont use the Omega's anymore because i never got the lid to turn off when docked... But then i never did try to fix it...

I did the same thing with the omegas! I didn't try to fix it either and just went back to stock drivers. The KVM's are belkin two ports I can't think of the model but its the octopus deal. I did try rapid switching but the keyboard dies when I get to the laptop. The Wife will kill me if I buy a 400 KVM! Eventually I will try the adapter and report back if it worked.

I found my model number looks like its price is half when I bought it...

Yah... I found that KVM...

1) Try the adapter...

2) Try calling Belkin about it...

3) try using just the keyboard and plug in a different USB mouse to the laptop... I did that for along time with my old KVM's...

& i can understand not being able do get a $400 server setup (BTW, this KVM is for 8 servers so it has really long cables and is huge...), but you can try other cheap KVM's and return them if they dont work...

Ill try those tips. I have been looking into a linksys KVM since I have alot of linksys gear. Oddly enough the keyboard does not work on either kvm but the mouse did on one. Well the mouse would sometimes. Both KVM's have a microsoft Intellimouse Optical. I am going to order a adapter and give it a shot. Office depot wants 29 bucks... Cyberguys.com wants 16 heh. Whoa just checked newegg they have one for 8!
Thanks for the tips ill report back.

Ok, I am interested in seeing which will work, because i would like to get another, but i dont want to drop lots of cash for a rackable KVM again...

Well I ordered the Bytecc BT-2000 tonight. Bytecc claims this will work to adapt a PS2 to usb kvm. It cost 6.99 on newegg.com. Hopefully this will work!

I also ordered a Samsung Spinpoint 30gb 5400rpm 8mb cache HDD for my wifes Dell. Anyone had any issues with this drive? This is one of the very few times I have ordered anything besides a seagate HDD. I figured it was more than enough to run her MS Office and sling games. Next will be a Seagate momentus for mine!

I will report back as soon as I get it and try it. Newegg normally onl;y takes 2 days to get it here so I should report back by friday!

EDIT: I ordered the samsung since it was only 64 bucks and .99 cent shipping. Cheapest Seagate was 110.

Well it worked at home but not at work...

My home KVM is a Belkin F1DJ102P-B 2-Port KVM Switch bundled with cables, PS/2
http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProdu...duct_Id=134809

My work KVM is a Belkin F1DL102P 2-Port KVM Switch with Audio Support and Built-In Cabling, PS/2
http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProdu...duct_Id=164050

The work KVM was doa when bought and Belkin finally sent a replacment. It has been nothing but trouble and does not switch very well. It was no surprise to me at all that it did not work.

I wonder if usb kvms would work better for laptop/dock users...

Anyways so far at home I have used it alot and switched many many times and it works perfect! I even loaded up games and switched while in game and it was fine.

I am looking into a Linksys 4 port now. I hope it works when the time comes!

It seems to be KVM's with keyboard switching only. The one with the button on the kvm works perfect. On newegg I think it was 6 dollars for the bytecc. I was browsing around compusa last night and found a belkin PS2 splitter. I think it might only br for thinkpads though but not sure. It allows for PS2 mouse and keyboard to be plugged into the one PS2 port. It was 36 bucks and I wasn't going to spend that much just to find out. Although mabey it would work on my crappy Belkin KVM... Nah I would rather use the money to buy a better KVM.

Good LUck I hope it works out for you. I know im very pleased with mine!

One follow up the work Belkin KVM was bad. I replaced it with a linksys and all is good even with the hot key switching!
