Booting a Linux Live CD on S460

Thread Starter
I'd like know if everybody else is experiencing the same problems as me:

I tried booting the latest Knoppix Live CD (3.9) as well as the Suse 9.3 Live CD but with both distributions the screen blanks after booting the standart stuff. (My guess its just before initializing the GUI)

I tried setting the frame buffer to some standard resolution (suggested somewhere on the net) but that did not help either.

I am a complete linux noob, so I dont really know what going wrong, I just wanted to know if anybody else has encountered that problem before and somehow fixed it.

Thanks!

Did you make sure that your CD drive is the "first priority" in your machines boot order. That has to be adjusted in the BIOS.

Disclaimer of I haven't used Linux in about 3 years.

With that said, assuming they still use the x86config, you can edit the file manually for customization for your video card. Just edit it to standard vga res so you can at least boot up in GUI. Editing requires you to make adjustments and specify custom timings, resolution, color bit setting, etc. Assuming you do it right, linux should be able to boot into the GUI.

Hmm however if you are booting directly off the CD into GUI then this may be a moot suggestion. When I used Linux, I did a text based install and configured it after installation before running the GUI.
