Hmm. Did you try to install the Linksys driver using their installation utility and THEN plug it in? Worth a try. Depending on the hardware, sometimes you have to install drivers before connecting the device. It wasnt an issue for me, but again, its worth a try.

EDIT: Another suggestion: have you tried plugging in the card and rebooting with it in place?

Try the card in another laptop again, just to be sure

Use another PCMCIA card to see if the "ta-da" works

Maybe the easiest solution for you is to use this card in another computer and vice versa.

Yeah, mine worked perfectly. When I originally installed XP, I installed XP clean, installed SP1 off a CD I burnt beforehand, installed all the drivers off the Sager CD (updated the ATI drivers later), forced XP to 'update' the USB drivers (USB2 doesnt work w/o SP1) and once I was done, plugged in the wireless card, (it went 'ta-da') and pointed the wizard at the directory where I unzipped the previously downloaded Linksys drivers. After a while, I got fed up with the way XP had trouble managing the wireless connection, so installed the Linksys utility. All is well now.

Like Henrik, I am stumped now too. See if you could find others with similar symptoms on these forums or via Google. Oh, and keep us posted as well .

Best of luck!

Mikhail

Sure thing, sure thing. It might be unfortunate to some extent, but like you, I'm one of those people who can't leave their machine alone until everything works properly. Eg. provided that I have time, I could, at times, spend hours trying to weed out an oddity. Helps with experience, but doesnt help with time .

How about this.....a pcmcia card was able to be detected in my sager.....but the linksys card is a cardbus card, and it was not....could that be the issue??? In the device manager there is no marks next to the cardbus device....Thx
post #34 of 42
The slot in your Sager is a cardbus, PCMCIA is just the name of an older standard and cardbus is backwards compatible with PCMCIA
