new msi-6863 802.11g driver on Sager website (question)

On the Sager driver site is the following:

WindowsMS-6833 802.11G Wi-Fi Mini-PCI Module Driver for Windows XP (Version 4.1.20.30) 09-Jun-05 12178 KB

Can someone please explain the difference between this driver, and the one I found through Ralink http://www.ralinktech.com/supp-1.htm profiled below:
11g-RT2500DateVersionRelease NoteOSWHQL
PCI/MiniPCI/CardBus
2005/03/14Drv3.0.2.0Doc
Win9x/2K/XP <>

As a review, with the original MSI driver that came stock with my Sager 9860, I would have on/off/on/off issues with the wireless card, i.e., connection, then disconnect, then connection … every few minutes – very exasperating. It seems that the Ralink driver I found, mitigated this issue – not completely (in fact Sager sent me a new wireless card that I’m driving to the City of Industry to have Sager techs install for me this week).

I would VERY MUCH APPRECIATE if someone knowledgeable can email me more information on what the driver is on the Sager site; in other words, why it would be advised to load this driver instead of the Ralink one I have.

THANK YOU!!!!

I have the same connect/disconnect issues with the newest driver.

Very irritating.

Mesabo - let's diagnose this together ... I would like you to download and install the driver 3.03.0 from the link above (driver is dated 2005/04/25) in the PCI/MiniPCI/CardBus row. ...

I think you will find your connect/disconnect problems will essentially disappear.

After you download the file from the Ralink site, of course, you should disable or otherwise uninstall the MSI driver before loading the Ralink one.

I have a 9860 with the G/Bluetooth combo card. Windows reports it as the Wireless CB54G3/MP54G3 Wireless LAN Card.

Additionally, the MSI wireless utility I installed with the new Sager drivers says MP54G3. However, the original drivers I installed from Sager include the Inprocomm wireless utility (as opposed to MSI), which reports the same thing as windows (Wireless CB54G3...). And, while the MSI utility installed, the drivers did not update.

I tried booting Linux, and the card is reported as Linksys, A Division of Cisco Systems [AirConn] INPROCOMM IPN 2220 Wireless LAN Adapter (rev 01).

What's the deal with the different reports?

Gfotion-

I will give it a try and let you know how it pans out.

Thanks!

Still no dice for me.

Neither version on the railink site helped my issues.

My netgear pcmcia b/g card works flawlessly and no matter what driver I load, either the one from Sager or any of the railink ones, the internal one will connect/disconnect or not see the wireless routers half/most of the time.

Pretty frustrating.

If you call Sager and explain what you've done, I'm SURE they will RMA you a new card ... your card is bad.

That is what they will conclude.

And that's what they did for me. I got the new driver to work for me so I'm sending them the card back. But for you, I'm sure (read hopeful) this will cure your problem.

Sager tech support is very good and responsive.

Just take the time to explain what you've gone through so far.
