After using my 9880 all day...

Hello-

I'm starting to feel depressed - after using my 9880 all day, my left wrist hurts from the awkward angle my arm and wrist are placed in to order to reach the keyboard. In addition, every time I go to type something, I literally start sweating because my arms, wrists, and hands get *so* hot. This thing clearly wasn't designed to ever be typed on, which is pretty sad since it's a freaking laptop.

I'm going to try to put something under the back to try to slant it forward. Maybe my wrists and arms won't hurt so much then...

I'm in the process of writing a review though, so expect that soon. Unfortunately, it's nearly all negative since there are so many shortcomings on this chassis. It seems that all the hubbub surrounding the features obscured the fact that there are NO ERGONOMICS whatsoever.

As each day goes by, it looks more and more like I might be returning this thing after all. :/

i know the feeling, i have a 9860 and when i'm typing things i basically HAVE to use an external keyboard or it gets way too hot on my arms but thats a price i'me willing to pay for all the extra power it has over other notebooks

That sucks....

i have a nostromo speedpad for gaming which sits on the laptop to the left of the touchpad, basically on the hotest part, so I kinda arch my wrist over it to type, and still I don't have any heat I can't deal with or any arm cramps etc.

*edit* I typed a 2000 word essay last night and I'm still goin

TM,
How can it get that hot if you are just using word to type in???
Im still waiting for mine and comments like yours based on your exp are freakin me out a little.
Joshua said his fans havent even reached full speed yet even when gaming and others are doing 4 things at once or running 2 games at once and have not mentioned it getting that hot.
Are you running a temp monitoring prog to see what the internals are doing???
If mine is as bad as you say it will be going back I guess as I am not paying $3.5K for a furnace. I will wait for a cooler running AMD powered system.
Thanks

CPU is 52C, GPU is somewhere around 57C.

I tried to underclock the GPU, but that seems to not work at all - just as hot, and no decrease in performance, so I'm guessing it didn't actually change the GPU clock speeds at all.

After blocking up the back with some junk I found around, it's much easier to type on, since now it's slanted towards me.

Enjoy your flight.

63c is the highest mine has gotten, that was with hl2 open in window, firefox, divx, irc, aim, party poker, and a few other small programs

still loving mine, except for missing tv remote, hook up and/or card(waiting on pctorque email) dead pixels, and the heat again, but other then that i love this this! and you are correct the keyboard is horrible compared to any ergonomic keyboard, from now on no huge space before the keyboard it just makes it akward

The extra height of the unit definitely required an adjustment from my previous laptop. A nice thick gell wrist pad helps enormously, as does making sure you adjust desk/chair height, and making sure you are trying to be as ergonomic as possible. once that was done, I played CS:S for 4 hours last night with no problems except recurring bomb defusal nightmares.

For temps, it's definitely a hand warmer, but I havn't experienced anything annoying or uncomfortable. I figure it will help keep my hands dry while I'm gaming, and my girl is ALWAYS cold unless it's 90 outside, so it's great for her.

I've never had any discomfort with the level of the keyboard or the heat. I'm not much of a gamer (sometimes play Doom 3, but mostly I got this computer for my CAD & 3D modeling work) so I guess I'll never understand how the heat seems to "burn" people like I see posted a lot.

I agree completely with TheMatrix. Mine will be sent back this week. I measured a temp of 120F just below the 10-in-1 card reader. This is with the fans constanly (loudly!) running (ambient measured as 74.5F).
