NIC Card Question

Thread Starter
We recently had a large storm move through the area and we had lightning strike very close to the house causing my screen be many different colors and now I can't connect to the web through my NIC card. I got around it through the USB connection but I wanted to know what you guys think I could do to fix it. It's an older Dell Dimension 8100 and I think the NIC card is integral on the MOBO. When I boot the computer it tells me it has found new hardware like I just installed the NIC which is obviously not the case and also the it is not configured correctly like it can't find the driver or something. Can I install a new stand alone NIC card and connect it that way or will it always try to use the old one? Thanks.

See if there is a way to diable the integrated NIC in the BIOS. Even if there isn't you can try disabling it in windows or indicate not to look for it anymore. But you can definitely buy PCI NIC and use that one instead.

During a storm season (which is now) I never directly plug in my pc (notebook) to either the power jack or the phone jack. Instead, I have a wireless router running on ups. That way if a lightening strikes and there is a power surge only the router has a chance of getting damaged.
