Battlefield 2 Settings

Thread Starter
For those that play Battlefield 2 what are your settings you use that you use? I'm trying to find the "right" settings but I think my problem is not enough ram since it seems there is a lot of disk drive activity. If we follow a format it would be easy to compare settings and systems in performance.

EAX should be of funless you have a creativelabs sound card (pcmcia audiugy2 or usb version) for your notebook.

If people have eax turned on this coul dbe causing pausing in game play.

m8 the reason for the harddisk activity is due to your texture size at high. Depending on which resolution you're playing at the high level texture is going to cause swaping of texture into the harddisk as I don't think the 256mb of the 6800go is enough. The higher the resolution the larger the texture at high setting and so corresponding increase disk activity.

The sweet spot is at 1024x768 at high texture when there's minimal HD activity. Any res above that you'll notice big lag when you first play the game. Try settinig it to medium then you'll find there's no more HD activity at the start. But the trade off obviously is the textures look a bit blurrier.

Nah its not the 256 mb on the 6800 but rather the 1 GB ram we have. I just ordered 2 GB of ram for this game.

runs fine for me on my i9300 except I get frequent keyboard 'lockups', causing my player to keep moving in the direction I was going for about 0.5 to 2 seconds, after that it's fine again. I have it set at 1280x968, all on high. would 'only' having 1gig ram being the cause of this?

Where did you guys find this game? Or is it a Beta version?

I thought it wasn't out until 6/21?

Thanks,

smack

Can't wait to try it on my 9300!!!!

I don't need 2 gigs, runs fine here.

Try a defrag.

smack: the demo has been released this weekend, so that's what we are talking about. the full game isn't out yet, but internet sites and mirrors are having a huge problem (or at least had this weekend) coping with demand. download the demo and try it out!

apparently you DO when you want to set all settings to high and keep a high framerate. my guess is this demo has a pretty huge memory leak bug, causing it to use WAY too much memory. remember, BF1942 needed 1gig to run without a hitch (although recommended mem was 512mb), so I wouldn't be surprised BF2 needs about 1.5gig!

You dont need more than a gig. It runs fine on my 9300 with 1gig of ram. When I exit the game it takes a while to get back to the desktop, but that is ok with me.

During the game I will get the ocasional pause but hardly ever. I have everthing but shadows at high, shadows are on low or none, as shadows are one of the most demanding aspects of gaming graphics, and IMHO in an outdoor game they are not really needed compared to an indoor game where shadows might save your life. Also I have NO AA and AF or texture filtering is set to medium as I can see no difference. My res is at 1440x900.

I wish there was an in game FPS counter like in the previous BF games. I could use fraps but sometimes I dont trust it.

I am going run it on my desktop to see what kind of speed I get, its got 1gig of ram, 3.4ghz and a 6800GT.

I do believe there is a memory problem. I was able to run it fine at an average of 35fps on 1920x1200 with everything set to high. Now when I try it the FPS won't even go past 30 (looking at the sky). 1680x1050 with everything on high runs wonderful.

If your going need 2 gigs of ram to run this then you should get a 512mb video card so you can run Doom 3 on ultra quality.
