Acer TM 8103 RAM Timings

Thread Starter
I have noticed that my RAM runs at a 2:3 divider and not 1:1, even though it is DDR2 533 RAM. This means that it's running at 200 MHz, in stead of the 266 which it's supposed to be running.

Running CPU-z 1.28 gives me the information that it has an SPD of the folliowing:
200 MHz 3-3-3-9
266 MHz 4-4-4-12
266 MHz 5-4-4-12

The other problem is that, even though it's running at 200MHz, it is also running at almost the slowest possible timings, 4-4-4-12, which is the 266MHz, SPD table.

Anyone else got this? And have you maybe figured out how to change this? I mean, I'm not going to OC the laptop, but I would like it to run at it's optimum performance.

Thanks
Firestar.

I didn't realize it either but other than getting a hold of a hacked bios I don't see how the fsb could be changed. Oh well I suppose if you can undervolt the processor then changing ram timings is just around the corner.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

Does anyone else know how to fix this?

Thanks

Is this stock memory that you are using?
My TM8104 runs memory at 1:2, i.e. 533 MHz. It is possible that you put memory that is somehow incompatible with laptop.
Alternatively, it is possible that Sonoma chipset in your laptop is set to work with DDR instead of DDR2. That would explain 400MHz number. As Intel documentation says, i915 can be used either in DDR or in DDR2 mode, there is also a choice of single-channel vs. dual-channel. It technically should not be so because mode is set in motherboard design (DDR and DDR2 memory sockets are different). Could it be a defective laptop?

Check that the ePowerManagement has not set to CPU = low. This setting puts the whole system at 400MHz instead of 533MHz (thats how it gets the CPU running at 600Mhz on a 6x multiplier instead of 800MHz)

Hope that explains it.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the replies.

I don't know if it's running in DDR or DDR2 mode. How do I check? Also, is there a way to unlock extra functionality in the BIOS? I know certain mobos allow you to press CTRL F1 or something to unlock extra options in the BIOS, but I cannot figure something like this out. My Bios has very limited functionality. Granted, I am used to a desktop, so this might be the way things are with a laptop BIOS, but I figured I'd ask anyways.

The CPU is set to Max in ePM.

Thanks for the help
