I bought a 64mb mobility 9700 off ebay before I started messing around with my card. That way I have something to fall back on if I fry my card by hard mod or bios flash. Either one will void your warranty. Not sure if I would stick Dell with the cost of my messing around anyways. A few dead mobility 9800's is definitely not going to put Dell out of business though.

BTW, that 3DMArk05 score is no longer a record. 4501 is my current best.

Raelcum, in the techpowerup guid it says: "If you want to remove all traces of previous Bios flashes (for example if you flashed the Gigabyte Bios):
Use modified flashrom to flash empty.bin".
Did you do that?

I have my 128mb mr 9700 still. It was fast so if i fry this 9800 i wont cry lol. I may take my lappy apart and take a pic of my mod to show you all my solder mod. I soldered my 9500 non pro and its still working in my boys rig at 9700 pro speeds. Soldering the points is the best way to ensure a good connection to me but is harder. All i want is 4000 3d marks. I still cant get close to raelcon so im not sure if mine is working but the boost i got i cant explain and it has stayed like this.

You say you get 3600 overclocked at 400/425. So before you did the hardmod, what scores where you getting at 300/350? Around 2000?

Hey, I don't know what happen, but my card idles at 69 C now and my scores went down from 2980 to 2500. Could it be that I have bad pipes? What do you use to remove the traces? Aceton?
Edit: Removed the traces and the problem is still there. Crap! And I don't have warranty for the card. It's time for the old switcheroo trick. Just ordered another 9100 so that I can switch the cards and return it.
Edit2: The problem is still there with my radeon 9700. Any ideas?

I did not flash an empty bios.

If the problem is still there with your 9700 then it probably is not the video card. What have you looked at so far?
Are all your fans still working?
What temperature is your CPU at?
Did you clean out all your previous drivers and try reinstalling them?
What settings are you running your video drivers at?

Phew!! For some reason fangui messed up after I installed the new bios and disabled the gpu fan. I uninstalled it and ran registry mechanic and everything is back to normal. I will run 3d mark now.I did the hard mod again (I never learn, do I?)

I'm glad you got it fixed.

I use fangui to monitor my temps only. It does not seem to be able to set my fans to their highest setting. So, when I am messing around with overclocking I just use the Fn+z+r trick and set all my fans to high (40). I only overclock when playing games and usually use headphones, so the fan noise doesn't bother me.

3d mark score stock speed 2954 (everything set at performance and all the crap running at the background not disabled). A bit higher than the others, but not x800 higher. It's probably the 2gb ram.
I wrote down what version my graphics card is.
CORE:
216PECGA12F
6F 5630.1
0446AA
TAIWAN
RAM:
SAMSUNG 434
K4055323QF-GC3
It seems like our cards may be diferent version.

Man, we are so close! Why isn't anyone else interested? Please, can other people test it as well?
Raelcum, can you take a photo of your card? And can you retrace your steps? Maybe 9100's adaptor can't power the extra pipes. Is 9100 and XPS adaptor identical? Or anything else hardware related you can think of (since you installed windows again and the pipes are still enabled)
Mekkboy, do you have a 9100 or an xps?

I forgot to mention that, but when I removed the first layer of the traces with the conductive pen, there was a very clear and straight line of conductive paint joining the two points that were disabled with the laser cut. Can someone good at electronics explain this?

I flashed quite a few different bios before flashing back to the Dell bios. I can walk you through a few of them if you want. You will need a floppy drive for your laptop. The adapters for the XPS and 9100 are identical. I'll see if I can borrow my friends camera and snap a picture for you. Success may be dictated by the core that you ended up with. I was reading other guides on enabling pipes and some people saw a correlation to particular core numbers and being able to enable pipes with a hard mod.

Here is the picture I promised.

Why does your trace of conductive paint go so far down? Mine only goes up to the the bottom dot.
Realcun i am not able to watch your pic...,
maybe i need to change type of connection.
An idea for you.. swap your radeon board with another xps video board so we can check if you performace are replayed in the new laptop.. :-)
(bit a crazy idea :-)

Can you remove the silver you applied and see if you're still receiving x800 type scores?

I could, not sure I want to do that though. I'll think about it.

Let us know. To this day you're still the only one to receive x800 type scores out of your Mobility 9800. Removing the silver is the only thing you have not reversed.

Can you at least remove the unnesessary paint that goes futher down than it has to and also clean the big dot, cause maybe there is another connection we should make
