I'll try cleaning up my connection a bit and see what happens. I need to get a better magnifying glass so I can see what I am doing on those tiny connections. Give me a few days.

1) I ran 3DMark05 and my score was 3402.

2) Then I completely removed the bridge and ran 3DMark05 again, for a score of 2898.

3) Then I used my conductive pen to bridge the two points and ran 3DMark05 again, for a score of 3449.

I did not have a camera available so I do not have any pictures. I did not make any software changes during the experiment. I taped off the other points to make sure I did not connect them.

I bought a conductive pen at my local Radio Shack. Here is the online link:

Could you tell us the score for your second test? We aren't trying to give you a lie detector test here. (I am considering doing this since Dell has voided my warranty [was not a great thing to hear, but Dell reads these forums all the time trying to find suggestions and when they stumble on people OCing and modding, they match it with a Dell owner.)

this is my second test:
fans on 40, cat 5.6 set to performance and 42 processes running.

3DMark Score 3784 3DMarks

CPU Score 4530 CPUMarks

and this is my score with settings on optimal quality:

3DMark Score 2655 3DMarks

CPU Score 4650 CPUMarks

Wardo, do you have a 9100, or an xps? Also can you read the numbers written on the core of the 9800 and post them?

I'm sure it had nothing to do with the couple of M18's fried through bad BIOS flashes.

I'm going to get a conductive pen at lunch and do this mod tonight. It will be a good time to figure out my my damn top cover (with the power, network lights) doesn't fit right after I installed the 9800 the first time.

So, you've got 3784 and 2655 on the same clock but different quality settings? 2655 looks pretty usual. Does the mode afect only "performance" mode?

I dont thing so, before mod my 3dmark05 test would generate a score of around 2900 in performance mode and around 1800 in optimal quality mode. but yes, same clock speeds, i can only oc so much, and my gpu is always at those settings. 452/411

edit: i just want to add this. i was litteraly 1 day from buying an 9300, i am so glad that i didnt now, the only upgrade from this computer now would me the xps2 since the score i am getting and the 9300 are about the same. i hardly think i would notice a couple hundred 3dmark points when i am gaming.

Something is not right. 1800 is very low for MR9800 on any settings. Difference between "performance" and "optimal quality" modes shouldn't be that big - 42%. On 452/411, default quality/performance setting (this is "optimal quality", right?) I'm getting something like 3400 - what is far but not far enough from what you've got to say about unlocking pipes.
Is somebody disagree with my notes? But I'm glad that the mode did something positive to your notebook.
in case this might shed some light on the discussion, here are my benchmarks with a non OCed, stock 9800 on 3dmark05

performance settings = 2882

maximum quality settings = 2188

so, yes, wardo speeds before the hard mod seem slow for an OCed card, given the results I get with my stock 9800.
I have to admit that Quality setting makes big difference. I've just ran the test twice, no hardware/software modes, clock at 459/415, catalyst 5.6:
"Optimal Performance" - 3715
"Optimal Quality" - 2860
Very close to what you have without any modes. As I said I'm glad for you new performance but it looks like the mode brought you back to normal performance.

My mem on my card wont go much past 400 or ill get triangles popping up all over. Ive had the core to 475 before.
1/2 bent, looks like the mod just fixed your card but not really unlocked anything, if you was getting 600 points less then that before the mod.
I believe that you guys (1/2 bent and wardo) needed just to take the card off and put it back, press harder into slot and you'd get the same performance without any conductive pen...
How many other successful stories we've got in this thread?

Just one, raelcun.

=(

Maybe raelcum is having a big laugh on how he made a bunch of idiots believe he has unlocked the pipes.

I wouldn't go that far. There were few people (including myself) who got unexpected boost in 3DMark05 using MR9700. Read this. Really, right after I've installed 5.3 I started getting 300 points more then before. No explanation was found and shortly after that I've got MR9800. Would somebody believe there were some pipes unlocked
