raelcun, when you used the curcuitwriter did you drop a big dab and that was it or did you use small amounts drawing the jump in up and down striations?

ciao realcun
May you check, with a fluke tester, if the mod is connected to ground? So i can try to do the same with a wire and check if 4 extra-pipe coming up.. !
thank you

I will try to take pictures of my 50th week core tonight when I get home. Don't expect much as my camera sucks, but I will try. Hopefully, it will help give some clues as to whats different with the newer cards.

Those scores are on par with 16pipes. I Guess some realy realy lucky owners get mobility x800xt's.

Did you just do what everyone else did to mod your card?

i did exactly what everyone else did to their cards, not scraping at the dots or anything. tis a shame that extra cooling would be needed to run at the higher speeds to make the 16 pipes effect noticable...ill have to look into this...

Here are Anticitizen_2's core readings:

216PECGA12F
GC3148.1
0427AA

It may be that the very first mobility 9800's made (they were on r420 before the x800 was even out) have 16 pipes available? Or maybe it has to do with a bios since someone said that all of these cards have 16 pipes available?
My card was made in the 27th week as well though, so it should have 16 pipes as well if this was a manufacturing date thing. Anticitizen what BIOS are you running?

To see which BIOS I'm using should I just use the Dump Video BIOS option in ATI Tray tools?

Oh and I ran ran 3dmark05 at basically Anticitizen's speeds (432/418.25) and I got a 4327. So it appears the 16 pipes give an extra 300-400 points in 3dmark.

Just a thought… and before I start, I readily admit I am no expert on this subject. Let’s look at the respective versions of the X800.

X800XT (and PE) - no laser cut, 16 pipes.

X800 pro (vivo and non-vivo) both have twelve pipes enabled.

X800 pro vivo requires a flash to get to 16 pipes. No hard mod required (obviously since there is no laser cut)

X800 non-pro requires a hard mod and a flash to get to 16 pipes. The hard mod is performed by connecting the two dots to the left of the center dot. The two dots on the right side of the center dot are not laser cut. Once connected, a flash is all that is needed to get to 16 pipes.

Since MR9800s with the mod now have both left and right sides connected, would that be analogous to an x800 pro vivo (or hard modded x800 pro non-vivo), whereby a flash is now required to get to 16 pipes? In other words, maybe all we need to get to 16 pipes is a flash just like a flash required to get an X800 pro vivo (or hard modded pro) to 16 pipes?

With the x800 pro vivos, we had the gigabyte flash utility that enabled the extra pipes. The question is, what can we use for the MR9800 that will enable the 4 additional pipes?

Given that some people already have 16 pipes without a flash I am skeptical that a bios will change anything.
Yeah, I thought about that. But maybe some came enabled (for some unkown reason) when they shipped and all they needed was the hard mod. Regardless, its a logical approach that at the moment seems to be our best shot.

someone should go and max out thier 16 pipe card, see if they can get into the xps gen2's 5K club. that would be something no one would expect. looks like the older brother is playing catchup!

That would be so cool

An idea. What if someone with a post 40 week card modded the card, then did a fresh format of the comp. Could resetting everything possibly change anything? This may be retarded but I have no idea what else to try. I would be willing to do try it but dont want to waste my time.
