12 pipe mobility 9800 - Page 21

u guys with a successful mod, could u check if u have continuity between right set of dots and center dot. All four outside dots are connected to each other, but the center dot is not connected to the other 4 on my card. Has anyone tried to connect the 2 right dots with the center dot on newer cards?
I have tried connecting all the dots.
do we even know what the center dot is/does? sorry if i missed that.

if not then it doesn't seem very smart to go and "connect the dots" especially w/ a 400$ gpu...

Guys, I wonder if I ruined the locked pipes because I was working on my table with a ground bracelet connected to the surge protector connected through the outlet. When I was working, I had forgotten to turn the protector power switch on . I am not sure if the switch turns on just the ac prongs and the physical ground prong or the physical ground prong is always on? If it was always on than I don't think I statically discharged the gpu.

i conected the center dot to the laser cut, the card wouldnt even post.

Probably not. I've never used anything to statically discharge ay part of a computer and I haven't fried anything *knocks on wood*. You should be fine.

angry_monk you make a very good point. Playing connect the dots isn't too smart

i have a card made in the 27th week, i tried the mod, retried the mod, scraped away at the dots till they shined, and tried the mod again and cannot get it to work. ati tray tools still shows 8 active pipes

I'm about to mod my GFX card tonight, I'm going to try going around the pit instead of over it.
I think this post wasn't worked out yet. Dinominant, have you tryed to connect the dots but bypass the cut between them?
that may be my problem, any answers?
I made the jump bypassing the laser cut and still no success. I know that my jump was perfect since I used tape to cover all dots and laser cut too except the two needed were exposed, and still no success. I think I might Just cover the dots that are not needed with tape and just poor globs and globs on the thing to see if it works.

Guys, I have a funny story. When I wanted to test my circuit writer I was w/o voltage meter or a light bulb to test the circuit. I used a 9-volt battery and made a couple of big silver marks to attach the 9-volt to paper and my tongue to the silver and it was a working zap. I know I am an idiot, but I needed something to test this conductivity of the circuit writer.

Hi,

Just performed the mod today after following this thread for some time
GF chip - 0440AA ie. 40th week
Get 12 pipes in ATI tray tools however all is not so great. 3dMark05 which use to work no longer does- if registered - get the messge "This system is not capable of running any game tests or demo parts..". However if I do not register I am able to run the demo although is stalls and drops frames - same with the games tested Doom3, HL2
Rome Total war now crashes. Tried reinstalling the latest Omega drivers but to no avail. I have now disabled VPU recover to see what happens.
No artifacts, temps in fanqui (2.2.0) ~52C under load, 47C idle.
Any ideas as I suspect I will have to revert.

Cheers

Sounds like you might have bad pipes.

I haven't used my laptop on batteries since I did the mod, but I don't think it will have that much impact. When I use the batteries, I set everything to maximum battery lilfe any way, and I close all processes I don't need.

Does anyone know if the DIMM temps and GPU temps are switched on I9fanGUI? The keyboard by the GPU feels much cooler than the memory bay, and I don't think the GPU readings are accurate (57*C is waaay too warm, especially when that part of the keyboard is cooler than the 52*C CPU part of the keyboard)

OK, I've connected the 2 right dots over the laser cut. I still have 8 pipes. I took lots of pictures (ftp://public:rr32fsdw@dinominant.no-ip.com:444/). That address is a server running in my basement, please don't DoS attack it lol. Today I'm going to try going around the laser cut and see if it makes any difference, I'm also going to test the resistance of the dots up there and see if any are grounded. I did scrape down to the dots, they had some kind of hard wax covering them.

Numbers:

216PECGA12F
GF5597.1
0441AA
TAIWAN

If I'm reading that right, I have a week 41 card of 2004.

Maybe they changed the way they cards were built in week 40. I'm thinking they did the laser cut after they did the wax covering instead of before, possibly exposing a ground in the bottom of the pit. Later today I should know as long as nothing comes up. I'll take some higher quality picters today (I didn't realize my camera was set to 2 stars instead of 3).

OK, I've pulled my computer apart, and I tested the resistance on my card.
on my ftp there is an image called "core resistance.bmp". All the black dots are dots that can be connected, all the red lines are the ones with a 1 ohm resistance (they are connected). The laser cut does have something at the bottom. When I connected the 2 dots on the right over the laser cut it filled it in with conductive ink. I tested the filled in cut with the surrounding dots and found that the bottom of the cut is actually connected to the top right dot. I'm going to try connecting around the cut although I don't think it's ging to make a difference.

None of the dots are connected to ground.

i have been trying to get a score of 5k so i can post it in the xps2 5k club and i overclocked my card higher than what ati tool said was safe. i can get within spitting distance of 5k with a score of 4852 3dmarks. if i change the video settings i should be able to break 5k right?

I checked the resistance on my card as well. I get basically the same results.

Some points are around 5 to 12 ohms to ground and some are infinite to ground. I'll create a picture with all my readings and post it when I get a chance.

i would create a separate hardware profile for getting 5k, have NOTHING running (only necessary things), have all the windows xp graphics set to minimum and do the 3dmark test after a nice re-start. also, if you somehow inject COLD air into the fans then that will lower your temps and allow you to OC more. KEEP TRYING, i really want to see this happen! 200 marks away!!!!

oh yea, if you havent done this already (i think you have though) set all the openGL and directx stuff to preformance.
