12 pipe mobility 9800 - Page 24

yea, that was the point i was trying to make. that you actually have to unlock the pipes before you can know if they are bad or not.
ok, maybe i posted this in the wrong thread before..so does anyone had any luck with newer cards ?
No, this is the right place. No luck on new cards yet. It seems that it is a hardware issue we just cant figure out what. We could use some1 with a newer card to post pics, that would probably help.
YEa, if Dell would f... send me a new card I'd post those pics.

Anticitizen 2,
try out the new cat 5.7 drivers and see how much that improves your 3Dmark scores... GO 5K!!!

(try them when they come out for mobile cards that is, i think they need some modding first)
im trying again tonight for the 5k. i may try the new drivers too...

Did anyone find out what the vcore value was for the mobility x800's ? Also, has any of the newer card holders increased their vcore values to see if the pipes open this way. Knowing ATI, they may lowered their vcores on later models duey to better conductivity. I'll be keeping this thread updated.
vcore only affects stability at a given clock speed, It doesn't have any affect on the number of rendering pipelines. I know some people had to scrape away a channel to connect the contacts on some X800 VIVO's, I wonder if that is the key?
any links to sites where they describe or show this "channel scrape". I'd be willing to give it a try.

i tried to get 5k with the new 5.7 cats and failed once again...the best i can get is about 4868. im gonna go back to 5.6cats and try again...
Maybe you should try getting a very fine needle and spinning it in your fingers to go down. That way if its just the PCB below you won't mess anything up too bad by scraping the whole thing.

anticitizen....make sure you install the official ATI 5.7 MOBILITY drivers. I made the mistake of installing the ATI 5.7 using the patje mod, which is not needed anymore. The link to the correct drivers are in the ATI 5.7 thread. I took a performance hit using the ATI 5.7 using the patje mod, but actually gained points when I used the official 5.7 mobility drivers. I'm so glad that ATI released these. the installation was so smooth, and no mods were needed. I'm happy indeed.

ok, thanks, i will try this. and i have new benchmark results...4931... so close...

edit:i just got 4969 with modded 5.7 drivers. i will try the mobility drivers, but arent they just for x700 and x800?

Actually i didnt postt his but i did this about 2 weeks ago on my card. I also used a needle to scrape away at the traces in hopes of getting the dots connected. Mine didnt work and really you can mess up the card. Even with the needle its a pain in the but to do.

They work just fine with my 9800. here is the link to the post that turned me on to them.

sorry guys, the best i can do in 3dmark05 is 4977. this is with new mobility drivers and retardedly high overclock...also i ended a few processes and did some other stuff. would a reformat and fresh install help? if it would can anyone give me a link to somewhere that will show me how to do this?
anticitizen 2 did u go into bios and disable hyperthreading? I disabled and gained 30+ pts in 3dmark 05. Hope this helps.
is your cpu overclocked if not give it 200 more mhz and there you have it

i will try disabling hyperthreading. as for overclocking my cpu i really dont want to risk it. the cpu and the gpu share the same cooling fins and the extra heat from the cpu might cause the gpu to artifact at lower ram clock speeds... i will try again sat. or sun. if it doesnt work then i dont know what to do...most of the options have been exhausted and i dont like running my gpu at such high speeds so often.
with less that 30 marks to go just overclock just a little more. if disabling the hyperthreading doesn't do it then you could try a registry clean and a nice old de-frag, but i dont know if that will really affect a 3d mark score. but you could try it. SO CLOSE!

ALSO: if you try that whole "creating a hardware profile for gaming" thing i said early you could gain about 20-30 points on your score. i think a search on google or this forum will help you do that.
