This drive sucks
,
It fails to read any DVD's, only reads some CD's but not others? and writes CD's inconsistantly.
On my old 5500 it came with a another QSI drive model SDW-041 which too had the same problem.
I don't understand why Alienware continues to use inferior parts in our so called superior rigs? I wonder if the Sager's come with QSI drives?
Anyhow, tech support had me do a few things:
Reseat Drive,
Remove IDE controller from the hardware manager
Swap the top optical with the bottom optical
(Not in that order)
End result is the drive is defective hence a replacement drive is necessary. I have to send them my drive before they will send me a new one (Wish I had a Dell in this instance) being that I would not give credit card authorization.
Hope they don't send me another QSI drive as IMO they are all junk...cheap wanna be drives
.
Has anyone else had any experiences with QSI drives, what action has been taken to rectify them?
Any assistance from u fellow alienwaries would be appreciated, nanoo, nanoo.
